A snippet from a Ben Guthrie article on afl.com.au from this mornings training.

While McDonald's determination to keep presenting at the footy was noteworthy, Kade Kolodjashnij's foot skills; Bayley Fritsch's aerial ability, as well as his decision-making, and Michael Hibberd's run and carry were among the other highlights of the match practice.

Article also states umpires were there to officiate the match practice part of training.

Would like to know more about which players participated and starting positions in this match practice.

Oh noes.  He can't put weight on either foot.

All his toes must be shot.

Fritsch had a great first year. He's already got the skills and smarts. Track watchers, has he put any size onto that small frame over summer?

Good to hear KK's foot skills are standing out already. He's going to be a surprise packet to most and the wingman we've been crying out for.

Harmes, who is no slouch, was doing a a bit of one on one with Hunt, Hunt just used his zip to break free, after about six goes, Harmes out loud  'he's just too quick' to everybody's amusement

Harmes is no slouch either! Hopefully Hunt can stay fit and build on his early career form. He looks to have put on some muscle in the upper body over summer. He could become a serious weapon for us, and is probably the player I'm most excited to see in 2019.

Could Hunt play from out of a F/ward pocket, LT ?   Has the lead speed.  Has the leg.

But does he have the hunger and desire to put up with being hit in the back?

The toe issue is obviously far worse than we feared. Tommy can't even use his legs to get around the gym.

He was swung forward against the Hawks a few years back and turned the match for us there, so it’s not the worst idea.

Personally I’d like to see him settle on the wing. Ideally him and KK own the wings, so we have good running power, elite pace in Hunt and elite kicking in KK.

Michael Hibberd's run and carry

This aspect of his game has always been a strength - just the bloke to regularly take that ball out of the backline in 2019 - if it can ever penetrate near the last line of defence - with our threatening forward line running berserk into spaces or midfielders doing their flat-out run and possession routines nearing the goalmouth. This team offers so much ... like tanks on the battlefield ... clearing riff-raff, penetrating deeply, controlling direction and approach, sheltering the forward eschelons like assault pioneers ... can't wait ...

Oh yeah. Don't misunderstand me , I want him to settle as well and I think centreling is his area...  but I'm imagining of a lineup, IF 'Maxy' or 'Breuse' play deep forward with Weide.

Then what options do we have alongside them.   To me the talls to shelter Weide, to aid him marking...  but who leads to open up the deep forward area.

I think Hunt has the skill-sets, speed and agility, for that setup...   similar to DeGoey in this regard.

Aside from that setup, I have Hunt playing regualr centreline.

This is a pic from friday. To think some peanuts on here actually think hes still carrying puppy fat or is carrying too much weight.

He is an absolute ripping nick! Just shows how hard he has been workinh on his fitness on and off field.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
