Outside of that Facebook page, has this rumor been reported anywhere else?

I'm still in the 'meh' camp in terms of recruiting Colyer to the club.

However, you would be silly not to at least back Goodwin in with this one, especially with how well the other two Bomber recruits have worked out.  If he does come to the club then I certainly won't write him off, but at the same time, I won't be surprised if he doesn't crack our 22 on a regular basis.

Anyone with elite speed I'm happy to bring in. We're still a bloody slow footy side.

If we get May, maybe Frost loses his spot. Add to the fact that Hunt may not be in the team we literally have not 1 player with elite speed which is a worry. Stretch isn't anywhere near as quick as Colyer.

So we were the highest scoring side because we moved the ball slowly?

What is it with the speed?

If you have speed but butcher the ball,is the speed still important?

I don't know about you, but if the ball comes through our defensive press and finds its way into open space I want quick blokes who can cover the ground as opposed to one paced plodders. We got caught out when we turned the ball over at times because we did not have the ability to defend with speed.

Our opponents knew all they had to do was try and compete at the contest, get the ball to their outside runners and then they would be able to run us off our feet. Richmond base their games around blokes with elite speed, who as a result of being so quick can apply pressure to their opposition.

We had Nathan Jones and Dom Tyson on wings in Perth. When the ball got turned over, these blokes looked like they were on a treadmill compared to their Eagle's counterparts. If they were elite by foot, you'd maybe get away with one of the two. But these blokes aren't the answer on wings against good sides.

Totally agree TK. Tyson has never been quick, but unfortunately for Jones, he has slowed down big time and is not suited to playing on a wing. Stick him on a HFF with relieving stints in the middle when one of our younger brigade needs a little respite.

That’s essentially what Port did with Boak in 2018 and it doesn’t work; they can’t contribute effectively to the defensive press which, when coupled with non-defensive key forwards such as Dixon (see Plugger Mac for us) and Watts (Hogan), means that you’re extremely limited in terms of the pressure you can place on blokes

Jones was fine on the wings imo - as I think he said on On the Couch, the reason why he’s played more wing in 2018 is that an experienced player can read the play more effectively than a kid, and contribute both going forward and back

He ain’t quick, but he’s smart

Out on the more open spaces of the wing, being ‘slow but smart’ doesn’t cut the mustard in finals - where quality opposition teams are likely to have wingmen who are smart and quick.

So we are talkng about Colyer who is not renowned for his 2 way running, particularly defensively, right got it now

We were actually talking about players with leg speed versus players without it.

I'm really struggling to like this prospect. Colyer has played exactly one full season in his entire career.

Doesn't get it much, doesn't lay many tackles, doesn't use it especially well, doesn't actually gain much ground, not particularly dangerous going into or inside 50, not noted for defensive running.

Wow, saying it out loud, I like the idea even less.

Poor imitation of Spargo.

Worth a crack on minimum chips. Got great line breaking speed.

Line breaking speed doesn’t count for squat if you don’t know what to do with it and have poor disposal. Bugg is a much better rookie prospect.

If Goody thinks he's ok, its ok by me.

Fair enough. I saw something in Melksham and obviously in Hibberd. I just don’t see the appeal in Colyer whatsoever.

Many Bagged Melksham's drafting, Hibberd was a different story, If he is drafted maybe Goody can get the best out of him like he has with Melk and Hibbo.

Just for interest, is there ever a player you have been positive about recruiting? In my observation you have dissed every opposition player we have shown interest in.

Then once they arrive - alchemy!
