Sadly the other reality is that we aren't in a strong position when only one year out from him being an RFA.

Yes he is contracted, but if freo are confident of getting him next season they wait a year and get him for nothing.  We get better value now, but we won't get two first rounders.

Plus he has a nasty foot injury. We know how those go.

Maybe post of the year!

Agree! Been a very long time since I’ve been Rick Rolled!

A classic!

Would Freo risk it?  A lot can happen in a season, plus being a restricted free agent means they might feel as though they need to offer more to ensure we don't match.  I don't think we would do that, but it might make Freo a little nervous.

The likely scenario for me is that we get a first rounder and a player for him.  Is that good enough?  Time will tell.  Many were unhappy with the Melksham deal, as well as what we got for Watts, and look how they panned out.

I can't seem to find the details anywhere... but what was Lever when he came to us? Contracted? For a year or two more?

I don't see any player from Freo incoming. I'd like Ed Langdon, but again it doesn't seem likely. I think logic would prevail and we get two first rounders and one of those goes to the suns for May

He was uncontracted from memory.

Yes, it panned out that way, but we could have extracted more at the time if we played hardball

No we didn’t.  Jack is not that good at AFL Level.

We did ? ok

Bloody hell. So we have Jesse contracted for another season, which is a better position, and we're still not going to get two firsts?

Would they do Picks 4 and 6, or would they balk at that as being too much?  I could see us getting the better of this years picks plus a first rounder from next year doing the trick, and with Neale potentially leaving, that pick may end up in the single digits as well.

Freo fans are talking pick 5 and future first for Hogan which seems fair value.

I would trade the future first for May with a swap of their 2nd and our third rounder this year.

We don't know, but its likely that there have been a lot of work done already.

It is possible and proabaly likely that the numbers have been done and it has been agreed that  Hogan is either going there this season, or he plays out his contract and he goes next year.

Both clubs, Hogan and his manager will know.

Who says we won't?  I don't believe for a second that we won't get two first rounders (maybe one this year then next year) or at least a first rounder and a player equivalent to a first round pick.  I don't think we need to get too worried about that stuff just yet. Can you really see the club not getting much for him?

Depends what we ask for. If i'm melbourne im asking for 4 and 6 because he's contracted, will score 45+ (something Freo hasn't had since Pav) and 23.

I have a sneaking suspicion the last time he signed, he agreed behind closed doors to extend two years until the new CBA was done, with a view to leave then to maximise his value.

Can Cerra still be traded even though he just signed a new deal very recently?  I'm assuming he can.

didnt they bring a rule to cover this, I am pretty sure they can as long as the player agrees

Future first round would interest us if we are in for Kelly.

We cannot on trade that future pick this season tho can we? My understand is that because we traded a future pick last trade period, we are excluded

mate it's the AFL. You can do anything if you ask nicely. Geelong, Hawks and Swans have been abusing this loophole for years. source Fox Footy podcast. They continue to laugh at it.

Interesting quote from the AFL article:

It's understood Hogan had his exit interview with the Demons on Monday, when the possibility of a trade was not broached.

What has changed since Monday?  If he wanted out, why wouldn't you discuss it then?

Uncontracted.

The other issue is that there is more competition for Lever's services in Melbourne than for Hogan's in WA.

I think we will do ok out of it.

People need to stop comparing other trades.  If Freo had pick 12 only, then they would offer that and next years  first rounder but you are not going to get pick 5 and another first rounder.

Shattered to lose him but he is not worth 2 picks under 5

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
