Why does everyone accept that GCS will get compensation pick 3/4 next year? What if they finish 9th and the bottom 8 sides lose free agents? Their fist pick could be around 17. They have no way of knowing what the compensation may be. 11 this year could be better than the unknown.

They won 1 from their last 17 matches and then just lost their Full forward and full back, how can they possibly finish higher than the bottom 4? Pick 3 next year is just about locked in.

Edit: They also have the same percentage as 1995 Fitzroy.

A number of commentators undervaluing Jesse but not articulating why.

"I just don't think he's worth 2 first round picks."

That doesn't stack up to his output and the price paid to get him (He would have been top 2 in his draft year). He hasn't gone backwards.

It's starting to really [censored] me, if they're going to say something stupid like Jesse is only worth 5 or 5 and a second round while May is meant to go for 5 - explain why you're discounting Jesse so much!

5 for May would be ridiculous overs. Get him next year for nothing, KPB isn't even a pressing need. 5 and 11 for Hogan not enough. We paid more for him than that before he was proven.

If we get 5 and 11 for Hogan  or  maybe 5 and 23 and another pick what ever it may be. Let GC come to us with the deal we have the time as it is on our side. If it doesn't eventuate we go into the Draft and chase the best kids.

We have OMac, Frosty and Lever to come back Start rating them they will do the job.

May is 27 not 23 and has a history of suspensions.

He is no world beater.

May's 27? Jeebus he's only got a few good years left

wow nice work by Freo and very helpful to our cause

Port still have 6 & 10 which possibly gets them 2 of highly rated SA prospects Lukosius, Rankine, Rozee and Hately.

That's win-win trading

Port might get 7 from the Doggies for Wingard. Reckon they would then go hard at GC to swap 6, 7 and 10 for 2 and 3 to ensure they get those SA kids.

Really, frack this fiasco. Keep Hogan, pick up May when he's a free agent and back in our backline to improve when Lever is back.

Demonland forum a week ago: get pick 5+6 from freo for hogan, give pick 6 to GC for May... “sounds fair”.

Demonland forum today: get pick 5+11 from freo for hogan give 5 to GC for May... “THATS MASSIVE OVERS I WOULD BE LIVID IF THEY DID THAT”

I care about what we finish with - if we get May with ND5 that’s fine if we can get back in the draft a bit more - we have a list to fill out.

They are the same commentators that will denigrate the Demons if they don't get 2 first rounders for Jesse once the trade period is over.

If we get Pick 5 and 11, I'd be happy to trade 5 for May.  You would rather do 11, but I doubt Gold Coast takes that.

Then we have May and we can go to the draft with Pick 11 to snare a really good player.  I doubt we do any better than that, but I'm not sure we could anyway.

Yes, because we would feel comfortable giving pick 5 if we still have 6

not if we have some pick 11 or later

I think the only way they will accept 11 is if we bundle in a player like Tyson. Yeah I know Tyson doesn't want to go but ...

I still think Gold Coast will take 11 + sweeteners (player or 2nd round pick.)

You may be right.  I can see other picks being involved in the deal as well.  Possibly May and one of the picks they got from the Lions for Pick 11, or something along those lines.

Full back bad influence (according to some) full forward injured, Carlton could totally implode and ask for and receive priority picks. They won 1 less game than Stkilda so 15 is a very reasonable guess. Bris- Stk - Carlton lose free agents then GCS could get pick 8 as compo. They could have a good year other sides may crash. 3/4 is likely compensation but in no way is it a lock.

if we lose hogan and gain May then our list has gone backwards this trade period.

Depends if they have any interest in the players we are happy to send to them.  They won't take our scraps and Pick 11, they would ask for someone who is probably going to be in their best 22 to go with that pick.  Not sure who we would give up.

You can feel that way now, but you can't be definitive on that.  What if, off the back of the trade, we win a flag in the next 2 years?  That makes the trade a massive win on all fronts.  You can't judge it now.

I get the sense that the best we can hope for is Pick 5 + Future 1st rounder.

Jesse needs to make up his mind so we can focus on other ways to improve our list.

Seriously Freo have been undermining one of our key players in Hogan for years. Now they have a chance to get him they want under or get severe stage fright. Talk about indecisive. You can build a whole forward line around Hogan. I for one hope they stuff him around and he sign a long term deal with Dees that see him full forward in a Dees premiership. I seriously hope this trade fall over to mention May in the same sentence is laughable.

We need to be really firm with the dockers and back it up. If the deal gets any worse than 5&11 I think it may be time to say sorry Jesse the dockers won’t play ball.

So it has nothing to do with what May is worth, rather what we feel comfortable with? Like in the castle “it’s the vibe of the thing”?

Strange way of looking at it from my perspective, but just my opinion. Each to their own I guess.

Go Dees!

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
