id guess at May and Kolodjashnij for Hogan is being floated. I'd still want more, but thats just me. KPF are harder to find than other players. Although on the opposite if freo wait one year and hogan leaves for restricted free agency we'd get crap all (so hoping we play hard ball.

Other than the obvious ones i.e. Brayshaw, Cerra, Fyfe the only other one is Ed Langdon who we apparently already been after.

for the 1 millionth time. hogan is NOT a rfa at the end of 2019 (it is 2020)

if he stays to see out his contract and has a good year next year, his value could even go up. also others might be interested like the eagles

Mahoney said its may or hogan cap space wise. How on earth can we have Hogan, May & Gaff in the same team?

See below.

No he didn't. He said we couldn't afford May without Hogan leaving. I took that to mean we had nothing to trade (picks). We need early picks to afford to be able to trade for quality players.

Thanks.

I don't think you're giving the club enough credit with this one mate. The way we traded down to get Oliver and then Weid is a perfect example of not being a straightforward club. We're ahead of the curve.

True, and I didn't mean simple - but was referring to player targets. We haven't sprung too many left-field surprises of late and we haven't thrown our name in the ring for every available player. We seem to target or rule out a player early, not disguise the fact, and then get it done with minimum fuss. Straightforward would be description.

I wouldve asked for Taberner, but i think Preuss negates the need for a third forward.

I think Brayshaw would be a fantastic get, i believe disposal out of defence is the bigger determiner of spread and speed on the wing, and our small forwards can provide up ground coverage. May, Omac, Lever, Hibb, Salem, KK. We would be elite. So we could then have a player of Brayshaws & Fritsch class and footy iq on the wing, with a small time in middle for development

We would obviously have to give back a pick i think. 2nd round ?

Not sure I trust this bloke with our trading.......

For me it’s simple 2 top 10 draft picks or we keep Jessie. Have a crack for a flag with him next year and if he still wants to go we get a first round pick next year. If that’s all Freo are will to cough up this year then it will be no big loss.

Rule:  Clubs must make at least two first-round selections in each four-year period. If they don't, they will face restrictions from trading any further first-round draft picks.

Geelong may need to play catch up  http://www.geelongcats.com.au/news/2018-07-19/cats-first-round-requirements

With no first round picks in 2016, 2017, 2018 (might change) used, technically we need to trade in a first round pick this year or an extra one next year otherwise we won't have the required two picks (unless we get exemption) but like Geelong it eventually catches up with you.

The bolded with the second clause is somewhat ambiguous, no?

If we weren't to use our first-rounder in the draft this year and next, then we face trading restrictions?

Is it designed to give clubs the chance to trade back in on the final year of their requirements? E.g. - we trade out this year, and then can trade back in next?

It can be very murky as its a rolling 4 y period and that said no sooner had the afl made these clear-as- mud rules they gave out exceptions.  As long as you keep to the vibe Im sure its all ok !!

Sorry, I don't know the answers ? I'm not even sure answers are available as the rules were written in 2015 and the AFL 'clarify' the rules as they go along eg Geelong .

The guiding principle, as I understand it, is to ensure clubs don't trade away their future.

As an aside, that didn't help Freo, Saints and GC as they made a right mess of their 2018 future pick trading at a time they have poor lists.

Lachie Weller Pick 2 last year.

Jesse Hogan not worth picks 4 & 5 or 5 & 6 . Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I actually believe he is worth more as a proven developed player and a Freo player thrown in to the deal with a pick from us would be well within the realms of reasonableness.

Exactly. Hogan is worth way more than Weller.

Just read that Sam Mclure thinks we should get May for Hogan and nothing else lol.    Where do they find these morons?

And we hold all the cards so if they don’t wanna deal we hang onto him and back ourselves to convince him to stay with a flag tilt or west cost get involved in the conversation in 12 months time

in all honesty Id equate pick 2 to pick 4 and say pick 10....not 4/5  5/6.  but thats just me  Red

I seriously think Hogan for 4/5 5/6 is pie in the sky stuff..  4 and something ( under 12/13) yes  imho

Are we all pretending this wasnt a trade based on nothing more than GCS needing players who want to be there? Im all for demanding more than pick 4, but the inflated value of Weller shouldnt be the new value guide for the AFL because Nek minnit gcs want more than pick 5 for May

That is it - any deal has to be reasonable with each side feeling they have done near as well as they could have expected.   Does anyone know Freo's history of being reasonable?

A draft pick could be Toumpas, Cook or whoever, in other words no guarantee as to how a player picked will go in the big league.

Jesse Hogan is a developed beast with 70 games behind him and who leads the stats in nearly every category of today's forwards.

4/5 or 5/6 pie in the sky, hardly, it is my bare minimum. The boy is contracted and Freo are desperate for a big name and key forward and he is both.  Freo offered 2 first round picks for Cam McCarthy, a great footballer there.

I think JH is worth more.

i dont even want to particularly use any of those sharp picks to get anyone out the draft..In my view you use them as currency to get a player ready to go... as the adage goes...trade for players...draft talent. All around there has to be some minor leniency in what anyone wants as to what they can actually get

So though I know what your getting at its not how Id do or look at deals here..  In my world Hogan goes out...other players come in..

or more precisely Hogan and a bunch of players out...a  swag of noobs ( to us ) in. I dont really care as to the precise number of picks...or the # attached to pick...as long as it get all the deals I have in mind done. I imagine the FD has a few in the deraft in mind but as they're seedlings by comparison theres some largess there...In trade ...youre dealing pretty much with near absolutes...i.e known ( or as much as possible knowledge ) of the players involved

Hilariously a big WA paper has conveniently referenced an obscure data analytic footy website (HPN) to evaluate Hogan as pick 8-10

https://thewest.com.au/sport/afl-trades/afl-trades-2018-what-is-jesse-hogan-actually-worth-ng-b88979434z

Although saying that wont get done is accurate. They've suggested the likelihood is:

"If Melbourne are stuck on receiving two first-rounders, the other option would be for the Dockers to trade a future pick and bank on improving or perhaps swap an early pick this year for two late first-rounders, staying in the draft and satisfying the Dees at the same time."

Edited by johndemonic

Dockers will buckle... hold firm to 4&5 they simply can’t afford to not land hogan now. And he’s contracted so we have named our price.

Sam Mclure made me really angry this morning. But it seems i am not alone.

Why are these shiitstirrers allowed to be on Air?

Hogan is worth 2 FIRST ROUND Picks at least. If that deal is not wanted Jesse plays next year under his present contract.

You Mclure are lucky i do not know where your office is, because you need a serious talking down. Your ego is far too large and your haircut is a complete disgrace.

Pizz of you low life piece of junkmail...

I tried calling in all morning, fired up and ready to take him to task. He has no idea what he is talking about. He is a kid journo trying to make a name for himself.his comment that Hogan should walk into the draft, shows a complete lack of understanding of what is at play, he clearly doesn’t understand what a contract is. He then went on to say we won’t get anything done until the deadline of trade week and thinks it will play out til the final minutes- what planet is this [censored] from? Melbourne won’t entertain that because it prevents them getting those picks to another club. He really had no idea and then next time he is on I am going to go him. The problem with these talkback shows is as soon as you call them out or get into an educated debate that makes them look silly, they simply mute the call and use the delay to wind the convo up. Gutless

ffs sake the fwit is wearing a Filthy jumper...how can ANYONE take him seriously

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
