Thanks.  My computer seems stuck on this thread.  Time to surface and breath.

Know the feeling, I'll be taking a break soon! So much time wasted.

If you were buying beer and cigarettes for 40,000 people, you’d probably care more about the value for money.

If I scored a quarter of a million beers and 40,000 packs of ciggies at retail for under $200 grand then Gil himself would probably proclaim me as having an IQ above 150.

I really hope the rumours (read made up story) about a Freo player involved in the trade is the surprise but I really doubt it considering they are being miserly with their picks and are going to be losing Neale

You too Ethan? Wow, this thread is cut-throat.

I'm just gonna slink quietly back back into the background. Exit the Skuit.

On another, perhaps more esoteric note, when I lived in Cambodia I would quite often flick a fiver to some street kid to go and fetch me a six-pack and a packet of cigarettes, with the unspoken proviso that he or she could keep the change.

When they returned with my bounty, I didn't once ask how much they scored my desired goods for.

That is this - or at least how it should be viewed.

My Cambodian experience says the kid walked away with about $3 bucks change, and a huge smile on his face.

Most will forget the trade once May is monstering oppo forwards for us, and Oscar can take more of a floating role.

That's part of my point. Three beers in and I don't care if some other street kid tells me I could have got my six-pack for a buck cheaper.

P.s - I see Oscar more in the orange rather than floating role after this trade period.  Come at me binman.

A few posters claim they are in a downtrodden minority on whether Hogan stays or goes.  I'm not so sure D'land is one way or the other -  How about a simple poll to enliven what looks like being a slow day?

Put me down as ambivalent.

I'd love Jesse to stay but he isn't going to so we might as well bid farewell and not put up with this circus at the end of every season....

I’d love to get a young player back from Freo, Tom Morris’ early prediction ‘On The Couch’ was we would get a first rounder and a player back.

He mentioned this a couple of days after the GF. Can’t remember the specifics but he believed the Neale trade would commence an 8 way mega trade.

I have no idea what I want to happen today. I know what a talent Jesse is already at 23 and what he potentially could become. I also have a nagging concerns (perhaps my MFCSS) that he won't live up to that potential. I also respect his wanting to "go home" and if that's truly the case then that reason sits better with me then us pushing him out the door.

If we lose him then I want to be compensated fairly but I also realise that sometimes you have to pay overs or get unders just to get the deal done and hopefully it works out in our favour when it all comes out in the wash. Having said that, we always seem to pay overs and get unders but I sort of like that we don't look like [censored] but would sometimes like us to be mongrels at trade time.

Regarding May. I'm constantly going back and forth in my mind. Some days I want him and others I don't. He's older than Jesse but does fill a need but in a straight swap I'd rather keep Jesse. But then another club's name is thrown in the ring for May and that makes me want him more.

Ideally I'd love 2 first rounders for Jesse and then use one for May and use the other in the draft but I'm resigned to the fact that that won't happen. My second wish is for a first rounder for May and another young Freo player but I'm also sure that won't happen. I guess I'll take the first rounder and pick 23.

If Jesse has to leave I'm happier that he is going to Freo than to anyone else where I'm confident he won't do much damage in the short term in the bottom 4.

Well that's cleared up your position.....

The sci-fi geek in me would prefer that Tom Morris made his predictions using an unreliable gift of prescience that he received from a mutant spider bite rather than the reality of him making [censored] up.

So a player back to the MFC becomes part of the deal?

how strong is this?

hope it is true....

Wait, are you saying there's a difference?

If I close my eyes and wish really really super duper hard, everything I want will happen.

Otherwise I've wasted a lot of money on 'The Secret' dvds.

personally i'm quite content. My strong preference is for Hoges to stay. But if he leaves so be it.

I reckon GWS would feel like that Cambodian kid throughout that Scully trade.  They've taken Hawthorn's $5, done wee's in 6 empty bottles (that they got out of a bin for free), rolled up some dried cow manure and lawn clippings and told them it was a packet of Dunhill Blue.

Won't be until Clarkson takes a sip and a drag to realise he was royally shafted.

If he has to leave I'd be more content if we bring in May ( Magic 8 Ball says: Most likely ), Kolodjashnij (Magic 8 Ball says: Most likely), a young Docker (Magic 8 Ball says: Outlook not so good ) and then Weideman and TMac not get injured (Magic 8 Ball says: Reply hazy, try again ).

By 3pm this arvo, there will be people on here betting their kid's life on it that they have heard it's confirmed.

Actually, I'd say by 10:30am.

For me, I didn't want Hogan to leave.

I've since convinced myself that his head is not really in it and he is going to leave at some point anyway, so we just need to get what we can and move on.

Would make it a fair deal

If we get a player Ed Langdon would be the one I want.

Obviously Cerra or Brayshaw would be a dream, but I highly doubt this will happen.

Langdon will add another high pressure player in our froward line and some needed speed.

What if player was Bennell?

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
