Hmmmm Gawn yes but Oliver no way in my eyes.He is good but certainly not top 10

Oliver is in the top 5 for afl player ratings, top 10 SuperCoach, top 10 afl coaches association and probably top 10 in the Brownlow in a year he's been playing with 2 busted shoulders. He is on track to be ranked 1-3ย in the afl player ratings if his form continues and he keeps relatively injury free.

Cheers Faulty. Iย told my boss to go [censored] himself this week and ended up with a far better contract - because he apparently dugย my new fired-up emotionalย side (which is huge coming from a Dutchman). I must be on a roll - Skuit 2.0. Hopefully the MFC will adopt the same posture.ย

I genuinely believe based on limited footage and no real clue that our team would be significantly better off with Rankine rather than Hogan in the long-run. As such, i would take a straight swap right now, all things being equal.ย

I don't however expect we'll get 4 & 5 for Hogan and don't think it's a reasonable market expectation despite what we're giving up. I currently think it's probably likely to be 4 and something;ย maybe a player or a next year first, reasonably expected to be in the top five range.ย ย

If we can however wriggle our way into the next pick above the Saints following Carlton (surely Walsh) and GC (which I thinkย will already have 2 and 3 through natural and compo picks?)ย by handing GCย an 'overs' deal of both our two next year firsts for exampleย ย - Freo's 2ish and our 18ish (which can then be on-traded now) forย May and KK, in exchange for a draft 'understanding', then I think we come out way on top.ย

GC can take both Kings and a potentially a top-line mid with some additional horse-trading, while we getย Rankine, May and KK for Hogan and pick 18ish.ย ย Again. I'm certain we've manipulated draft outcomes with GC in the past and have good trading relations.ย

ย

I am in the "viewed in totality", and "pragmatist"groups when it comes to trading.

I see that's the way you view it also by looking at it like this.

I would put my money on the Dees selecting ready to go players over kids, but if we choose to keep an early draft pick in our current situation, I will be bloody excited, because the footy gurus must regard him as something quite special.

ย

Does this kid defend, or is he a one way runner?

Tim Gossage just said Hogan adamantly doesn't want to go to West Coast.....(and West Coast don't know why)

Well, Iโ€™ll be happy to be proven wrong, but looks like Hogan is out the door. Shame because heโ€™s such a talent and it would have been nice to keep the group that saw the beginning of our rise together.

But, itย is what it is, and now itโ€™sย time to look at how we can maximiseย this to our advantage.ย

Personally, I see Freo giving us their picks 4 and 5 as the most appropriate compensation, but they may give us 5 and 10.

If we are to receive picks 4 and 5, trade pick 5 to GC for May + KK and then use pick 4 in the draft to secure Izak Rankine. I saw someone post earlier that Port are right into him, but if the Hogan deal is done, we should be too. The kid looks a gun - speedy, agile, and a regular feature in the highlight reel.

check out these highlights from his 2017 and 2018 seasons. I saw on his Instagram he likes to sing as well - he can do duets with Robbo.

Freak talent this boy.

Didnโ€™t Karl Langdon say not fiveย days ago that he was โ€œ100% adamantย ย Hogan would be staying st Melbourneโ€ coz he bumped into Hoganโ€™s Mum and got the inside goss?

Same thing here I reckon. Empty goss from numpty Gossage. Theseย journosย generally have as little idea as anyone else. Gotta sell papers and clicks to stay relevant.

What we do know as fact is West Coast have publicity declared their interest. Thatโ€™s on the record.

Yes Karl did say that mate, which was strange as he said Jesses mum enjoys flying to Melb a few times a year, when she actually lives in Victoria anyway. To my knowledge, there are a fair bunch of incompetent journos in WA from what I've seen over the years.

No pressure to kick any goals at Freo, as itโ€™s not the game plan?

If he thought Melbournes delivery was poor, wait until he gets to a Neale-less Freo.

If true it is odd that Hogan would exclude WCE entirely.ย  One wonders why he would be so fixated on Freo (barracking for them in is youth seems a flimsy reason).

Given he wants to return to WA one would think he looks at the potential for football success and considers all options.ย  From afar, it seems WCE have it over Freo on and off the field.ย  A strange cat, is Jesse.

Because Frem have been in his ear all year, and for many years, he probably has built some attachment to them. Also Jesse was a Crows supporter as a kid. He is strange, his interviews are weird, I have always felt he unattached to everyone and everything.

Barracking for them as a youth is an especially flimsy reason when he barracked for Adelaide as a youth.

Iโ€™ve said previously that I thought this move was 50/50 go home/go to Freo, who have been courting him since he came on the scene. I would guess (and it is only a guess) he doesnโ€™t want West Coast because they havenโ€™t spent the last 6 years trying to lure him. Or at least, not to the same extent.

Maybe he thinks he may not get a game at WC. Big fish in the small pond syndrome. Yep, feel free to snipe, but frankly iโ€™m A bit over the bloke

1. He's terrified of the Eagles mascot. But he thinks the Freo mascot seems like a top bloke.

2. At West Coast, they laugh at people who smoke cigarettes. That's what your grandparents smoke.

3. He can't convince the Eagles' players that he's not actually an "east coast guy".

4. He's hoping at Freo, they'll let him drive a real ship.

I get all that.ย  Being chased by Freo for a long time is certainly a consideration but does he want football success or not?ย  He has spent 6 years at a struggling club and is facing something similar at Freo.ย  It will be difficult to play his best football at a club that is rebuilding.

I think we are about to find out where football success really sits in Jesse's life.ย  Maybe he just wants to play with his mates at Freo.ย  Whatever makes him happy, I guess.ย

ย

As an aside, I keep reading he was a Crows supporter but Wikipedia, which is not always right, says he was born and raised in Perth.

He was born and raised in Perth, but he definitely barracked for Adelaide.

Either Mahoney and Co. have a whole lot of players agreeing to come to us or this trade period may be viewed as a total balls up. We are going to have 10 players out the door, all of whom played roles in season 2018, and so far the only players we look set to get are Preuss, May, KK. With the exception of KK, I am not sure any of these inclusions address our lack of midfield pace and speed. There must be something brewing. I sure hope there isย because we are losing a forward and without Pedo we have no pinch hitter. We lose the experience of Vince. We lose the hardness of Vanders through the midfield and we lose the butcher skills of Tyson. Itโ€™ll all play out, I am just slightly concerned about the breaking up of a list that just got into a preliminary final. I know some will say a lot of these players are fringe, but each contributed something in 2018. In Hoganโ€™s case, 47 goals. Kent a match winning performance in the west. We could keep going. This turnover is a risk and I hope itโ€™s been well calculatedย

ย

Iโ€™d say that this is about dollars, personal issues/preferences and the fact that Melbourne are not begging him to stay. Jesse has been through a lot of [censored] over the past couple of years which may have changed his outlook on life and footy in general. I think all things being equal the club would like him to stay but the MFC has now transcended begging and cajoling certain individuals to commit. In short our window just opened and we canโ€™t afford to [censored] around.

Probably because he knows they don't have what we want in a fair trade (not that any compo would really make up for losing Jesse, imo).

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... itโ€™s time to discuss this weekโ€™s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliverโ€™s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line โ€ฆ Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the clubโ€™s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the clubโ€™s perspective, and the teamโ€™s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarksonโ€™s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed โ€” roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.ย  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
