Goodwin:  'and we've repositioned Cam Pedersen as a key defender in the VFL and he's playing some outstanding footy'

here comes big Pedo again, as usual coming in to fill a need, and he'll do good.  Go pedo. Would love this bloke to be in our premiership team.  [censored] it, we're gonna win the flag.  Like George Costanza, in the episode where he says yes to everything, or acts the opposite way to how he normally would.  That's me from here on in.  We are gonna win the 2018 AFL premiership.

Swans no injuries Saturday night and McVeigh and Jack will be better for the run and Hannebery and possibly Rohan may be back too.

Where have you read the news on Rohan and Hannebery? I really don't mind who the put out on the field. I reckon they are gettable. They fell over the line against a seriously undermanned Pies at their home ground. They were carried by Franklin.

AFL website.

They have Hannebery as Test and Rohan 2 weeks, which was before this weekends game v Pies.

I think our best can win, but I've seen too many letdowns over the years to not get ahead of myself.

Why are people wanting Pedders to come in when we have O Mac and Frost as key defenders?

Salem and Fritsch to play more HB

Not sure how much more HB Salem can play!

But I like the idea of Fritsch going to the backline and another player (obviously Melksham if fit) replacing J Smith. if Melksham's not ready, may be it's time to reconsider Tim Smith or Weideman. (The pessimist in me sees the possibility in this game of having to send Tom McDonald to the backline).

I believe that right now JKH provides more value to the team than Spargo who seems to run out of steam very quickly. (In the longer term, I expect Spargo to be a very useful addition).  Garlett played yesterday like he expected Melksham to be back next week and realised that one of the small forwards would have to make way and he didn't want it to be him.

Now that Hibbo is still a week away I guess Waggs comes in for Smith.

Melk in for VDB, JKH or Spargo.

Would love to see Hunt back he could add some real x factor if he finds his 2017 pre getting KO by sauce form.

This game is massive for us. I have faith we will show up unlike the round 23 last year, I am more concerned about composure we still seem to make costly rookie errors which will hurt us against the top teams.

Also if we win this and WCE lose, next weeks game would be epic.

To be fair to Jacobs, Hunt knocked himself out by running headfirst into the immovable object.

If Port beat West Coast this week,  2nd spot and homeground advantage in week 1 will be wide open...

Imagine it....  Melbourne and GWS win their next 2 games and Round 23 becomes the battle for 2nd.   With Gaff, Naitanu and Kennedy all out, the Eagles could easily drop all their last 3 (vs Port, vs Melb vs Lion s at the GABBA).

Epic few weeks coming up.

This is so much better than wondering who we will take with our top 3 pick or if we will land some "big fish" with our top pick.

So pumped!

Josh Wagner would be the most like-for-like replacement for Smith, but Pedersen is in the best form.

A possible way to fit Pedersen in is as a hybrid forward/back/second ruck. Gawn, Hogan, TMac, OMac and Frost played a combined 428% game time yesterday, so it should be possible to manage things so that all six are rarely on the ground together. Pedersen would split his game time roughly 30% forward, 30% back and 15% second ruck (25% on the bench).

Melksham should come in for JKH or Vanders if he is fit.

I think Spargo might drop out of our best side but he was very good yesterday, especially early on.

I think it should be Wagner in for Smith, we extended his contract, this is the type of situation he's required for.

Bernie looked way off, I love him but he looks passed it, I'd have him out too and play Fritsch back.    Back 7 - Jetta, Oscar, Wagner, Lewis, Frost, Salem, Fritsch.

Melksham in or if he's not ready then Kent or Hannan.

I think Frost is the preferred match up for Buddy.

I think Spargo provided precisely the sort of input the FD required yesterday. For a player as vulnerable to big hits as him, he doesn't appear that scared by it and he puts everything in the line in every contest. He'll keep playing believe me.

I'm a fan.  He puts in a shift.

I doubt Pedersen plays.  All they have is Franklin and some smalls who pick up a few scraps.  We don't need another tall.

Wagner for Smith makes sense.  If Melksham is ready then he'll get a run, if not then I think we just go with the one change this week.  Hard to drop someone when you win by 96 points.

Haven't seen Casey play - just follow the scores on here - but for those who do, and for those wanting Pedersen to come in, can I ask what position has he been played in the backline, a pure key defender or more an intercepting 3rd tall? There's no point bringing him in to play as a key tall because I don't think he's in front of either OMac or Frost and neither of them are true intercepting players.

We do need a defender who can read the play and get in front of the ball coming into the def 50, I've thought Smith's last couple of weeks have been much better at this, and was partly the reason why Adelaide's key bigs only scored 1 goal between them. So if Peds hasn't been doing this, then there's no point in him coming in, we'd be better with Wagner or even Hunt and give them that role.

Completely agree, If we want to have a lever type lose in defense in front of franklin i'd much prefer pedo than wagner. Plus we know Pedo gut runs and if we turn it over we'd have the effort from him. On the downside hes not explosively fast, but if he positions well he can cut off any thrusts.

LOL...  ok but, who gets dropped?

Frost has been playing well, and I doubt O Mac gets dropped. Was only 8 days ago he took Jenkins to the cleaners.

Just wondering if he's been doing this at Casey, if he hasn't then no point bringing him in because he might gut run but he's not quick and we've already got OMac, Lewis, Vince and Jetta who aren't all that quick, so we might be too slow.

Sydney have Franklin, but then Hayward, Papley, Ronke and Heeney who are the next best goal kickers who are all smaller quicker types.

Wagner will gut run and provide effort as well.

I agree with @Fifty-5. If there’s no use for Wagner in this situation, there’s no point in him being on the list.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
