technically if they threw the ball in the air and then connected it directly with their foot then that WOULD be their ball drop

    Yep, but the reason they don't is because it'd be almost impossible to control the kick. Players are told to control the ball for as long as possible in their ball drop.

    Same as Tmac’s Goal sans goal posts. He throws the ball in the air and then throws his boot at it. Both legitimate improvised goals. An elevated ball drop is the best term for it.

    I would say that is a very low percentage way to kick a ball in a normal situation so we won’t see that often.

    Players and Coaches getting paid a lot of cash. 

    At least when the Demons win flags we do it in groups of 2-3

    Interesting clarifications. Totally aware of the ball drop allowing superior control, but i would have thought as soon as you “throw” the ball, it would be deemed incorrect disposal.

    Great post. I remember at the time thinking TMac was lucky that it wasn't called a throw. Thankfully it wasn't !!!

    Isn’t it only a throw if you try to throw/pass to someone else because you are tackled etc? Throwing/dropping/passing the ball to your own boot must be within the rules surely.

    We see it all the time. A player gets tackled, loses the ball and by luck or design it hits his boot and it’s play on. If he misses it’s a throw, dropping the ball or other form of incorrect disposal.

    I said a couple of weeks a fanatical bulldogs mate of mine reckons they’re tanking for the no.4 draft pick. Certainly looks that way! However they have had a few crucial injuries since the Cats game also

    One draft pick doesn’t rebuild a club, so if that is true, Footscray are finished for another 50 years

    Pretty much none of the other results went our way this weekend.

    Goes to show we can't just sit around hoping other teams lose. 

    Disappointed in Fremantle giving Hawthorn a 3% bump, though. Hoped for more from them given it was at home.

    Some absolutely massive games next week.

    Must confess I have been a bit critical of Jeffy's inclusion. but this week he seemed to be getting into more dangerous positions more often, just need him to kick straight, probably could have kicked 4. Hope this means he has turned the corner. Whoops sorry wrong topic.

    The strangest thing is the huge praise that was heaped on Beveridge and the playing group following 2016 was based around their attitudes, relationships and communication.  How it has descended to this state is mind-boggling.

    Actually only copped about 2 days rain in 2 weeks, been quite windy though, enjoy your holiday and at least a few more Demon wins.

      From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

    • CASEY: Gold Coast

      Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

    • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

      The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
