This is the official VFL thread.

Once KC posts in it i will cut and paste his team and game information in this post (and delete the text in this post).

It’s like putting a towel on a poolside sunlounge at a hotel resort, then going out on a morning shopping tour.

1990. Melbourne V Hawthorn. Final round and Elimination Final. Spoiler Alert we won both.

Also 2015, North Melbourne v Richmond. Richmond won by 41 points in Round 23 at Etihad, but one week later North knocked them out in the EF for the third year in a row at the G.

Was the year which brought in the week off before finals given North had rested a stack of players.

I'm heading down to the cattery on Saturday

Probably a silly question, but will I be able to get in to the VFL game on my AFL ticket?

Why was my exact same thread closed and not been merged. And why others complain about the VFL best 22 when others aren't has got me beat. Have you whingers got anything else to complain about. It doesn't happen when I post the AFL best  22. I would have thought a lot of people wouldn't know the best 22 in the VFL, when VFL players don't get the media exposure the AFL players do.

Yes.

My last game at Kardinia Park was 186,  where I saw our seniors and reserves lose by about a combined 50 goals. It was a nightmare. Said I wouldn’t ever come back and I haven’t and won’t.

Agree. I will never go there. It’s too depressing

I’ve been to the future and the bad news is that this team will struggle against the Geelong VFL team on Saturday.

It’s not all bad news however, because I was able to hang around for the main game and can report that the boys well and truly atoned for round 1. I’m helping GOTO prepare his match report soon.

Has Harry Petty been rested due to his mauling at AFL level and not doing well when he returned to VFL? Gee, his bubble has been blown. Hopefully back to best next week.

Me too. I still have disturbing flashbacks at times, not unlike the opening scenes from Apocalypse Now!

Wonder who will be the carry over emergency - probably Josh Wagner.

At wednesdays training he was in the rehab group. Must have a 'niggle'.

Is anybody broadcasting it?  I an not expecting Casey Radio to be loaned a broadcast box but is there any Geelong station covering the match (however biased)!

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • PREGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

With their season all over bar the shouting the Demons head back on the road for the third week in a row as they return to Adelaide to take on the Crows. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
