The answer seemed honest, and for me, what I wanted to hear. Obviously I want the actions that come to mirror the words; we all do and it goes without saying.

It’s pretty rough to pot him over using words in a medium where words are the only tool he has access to. Honestly if people aren’t interested in the words the club has to say, I’m not sure why they’d watch AFL360 or read Demonland.

But Whately and Robbo were contained within the studio the whole time, so, in an actions over words sense,  Lewis demonstrated that he's capable of guarding the exits.

Whateley wasn't on last night, Anthony Hudson was his replacement.

Apologies. In Portugal, they also digitally superimpose local faces for AFL related coverage in addition to dubbing.

There just has to be a message 'well attended' by so many of our players in that brief. We have had these before - but time is up!

Hudson means Whateley in Portuguese anyway

What exactly do you expect of him? He was asked the question, he answered it, and thankfully enough he answered it honestly.

Do you think anyone in the club genuinely believes that by saying things, they happen, without having to actually do something about it?

It’s called letting off steam.

Funnily enough I'm pretty quite at a game where i can see play unfold, watching on tv im the opposite. Better for my health ?

I'm the same, I think the commentators really drive the knife in for me, ie Ling, Bruce and co.

Of course what Lewis said is merely 'talk', and needs to be backed up in Darwin ........ that's just stating the bleeding obvious!  But is there anything else people would have had him say to make them feel better?  I found it somewhat reassuring.

A point worth remembering is Lewis' experience and recall of his great days with a great Hawthorn team and set-up; he is a good talker and mentor as a consequence and yes, he is a faded player these days yet still a mighty powerful authority on winning football for others; the MFC is lucky in this regard to have him. His knowledge of the 'new' style of football is more concentrated and modern than that of Goodwin and all of his coaching assistants.

So his (Lewis) playing days are at a natural sunset; he may not play many games in the recent future; he would be a very formidable skills and tactics coach used full-time on our players, in an 'overall sense' on game day, in developmental roles  and onfield instructions across the board.

We would be less of a Club without him so my beliefs are that he should move to full-time player and game development roles, retiring immediately as a player himself. This will allow him to concentrate on all other games other than his own - albeit that his mentoring and communication to date with the MFC has been a prominent part of his role since joining the MFC. Surely Goodwin needs such a partner at the tactical level, and at the strategic level, and on the hard grind of week-to-week player readiness and instruction, backed by the existing coaching panels for more individual readiness amongst the players.

in all honesty as I suggested earlier...maybe someone just calling it as it really is..to just say..there's no actual point in saying  this or that, just calling it as it is. That would be refreshing.  Instead we always get someone ...saying something.... thats in all honesty mean sfa.

Instead of saying what many may feel they want/need to hear. Just be brutally honest. Words are valueless.

Maybe, with the exception of Max, why the leaders (and players) ignored the coach's quarter and half time 'anger and frustration' at the way they were playing and waited till the final quarter to respond...?

But he did tell it how it is didn't he? I didn't hear him sugar coat anything, only his own form before last week lol

A week earlier Bevo gave the dogs the mother of all sprays after their loss to the Kangas while everyone canned Goody for accepting Melbourne's loss to Port and his content with how we played. This week Goody gives it to them big time post match roast and everyone thinks, so what! It is all talk. He cannot win. Most agree that roasting post match only has an impact maybe once a season and constantly doing it loses the players and its effect. I am not defending Goodwin as this game was also lost at the selection table and picking Petty was in hindsight an error as he wasn't ready

From a source who was present post match, Goodwin certainly did give it to them and no one was spared with the exception of Max. Last night Lewis accepted he didn't have his best game Sunday but finished stating that on a day when they played badly theyb lost by 2 points. He also let us know the harshest critics were from within at the review which was equally as brutal and honest on Monday morning

Face it since Lever go injured we have not sorted out the defence both in personell and game play. I hope they find a solution and soon

Haven’t seen the clip yet

But, I wonder if they are as devastated as they were last round 23 and will respond in the same way ....... say they are determined to do better then put out the garbage they did against a cellar dweller at OUR home ground last weekend.

As others have said: talk is cheap, action is harder.

I listened to the last few episodes of the Inside Melb podcast: Gawn did not sound too down in the mouth about the losses.

Maybe that's coz he is a pro and it's done and no point getting down about it - tally ho onward and such.

Would have been nice for him to address it a bit more seriously "it sucks, we let our supporters down, etc etc" - but then talk is cheap

However, lightheartedness also not a good look.

I am so conflicted in how to view - I want to see them walking the talk.

If they come out and flop against Freo we will know the players are not fair dinkum - and you know what comes next:

The club should ban all our players from doing any media until we have made the finals.  Whether thats this year or in 2022.

Sick of all talk and no action.

You want the players to be clinically depressed?

I haven’t seen the video as wifi in Northern Philippines drops in and out, but if Lewis is telling some truth on air, then good on him.

That is his main job now. He has been to the mountain top 4 times

i don’t see why people on here are giving him a hard time

He is not supposed to play like a 23 year old, because he isn’t

He is there to teach onfield

HMR - agreed. A club develops from the top down. Remediation develops from the top down. Goodbye Goodwin and company, hello Roos!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
