Donโ€™t take it personally Febeโ€™s, but whilst BT can still draw breath, then it is you.

ย

Despite our improvement, watching the Tigers and Swans last night was depressing,ย

We have a long way to go to match their intensity, tackling, contested ball, aerial strength, leg speed, relentless running, confidence and mental toughness. Both sides just constantly will themselves into the contest to win and carry the pill.

They both have a handful of out and out stars supported byย a whole plethora of swarming willing worker bees who run through brick walls and attack with frenetic speed of movement and decision making so quick that you wonder how it's done. They may have a great coach but more importantly they have a bunch of players who have the perfect combination of skill, fitness and win at all costs mentality.ย

Coaches and players may learn by watching but you need to have 22 playersย who can go out on the paddock and replicate that same action.ย

Not easy but we must aspire to it.ย  .ย ย ย ย

We are not that far off. We do lack leg speed, especially on the outside and mental toughness is probably the other thing we need. But taking a big scalp will change the belief of the playing group.ย

You need to look at the teams this week as an example. Since 2014, nearly 5 seasons of footy,ย Richmondโ€™s team this week have 12 players that have played together plus have picked up 3 players with experience (Caddy, Nank, Prestia). Sydney have 15 players. This week we are fielding a team that only 7 players have played together since 2014. That is a massive difference in experience and continuity.ย

We are 12-18 months away from getting to that level. Might even only be 6 months.

Perspective.ย

I look at Richmonds team on paper and it looks good at best. but seeing them play they just get it done every time. Sydney played well and still didnt really come near them.

no way we can beat the Tigers this year.ย  we need a lot more mature bodies on the ground

Yep. Sydney a Top Side, were switched on, they were simply not allowed to win.ย

We are light years from that level at present

Yes we are..... and even you start describing how !

All we are is a yo yo middle order team at present.

We need to stop kidding ourselves.

There are many things to cheer about....but beating up cellar dwellers loses its shine when a 'real' team shows up with the resulting reality check.

Currently we're mutton dressed as lamb in that when you look closely the truth stares you back.

We can only hope to emulate Richmond's progress and success.

The Toiges turned the corner when they brutally looked introspective. They realised what they were doing WRONG and set about changing that ( and the personnel )

We might need to follow suit.

True, but it's sure better than being a cellar dweller though.ย  Just because some supporters got carried away with our performance pre-QB, is a not reason to be gloomy.ย ย One step at a time.ย

Yes Ernest it is a perspective...but to me one that glosses over the myriad of variables and differences between us and any them.

It's not just a case of time /wait and see etc.

A lot more happened at Punt Rd than games into bods ;)

Alas the real party isin the Penthouse...and we're not in the right lift atm ;)

100% agree

i still think some people think it is just going to happen. Changing the mindset of those who step inside our club is a huge ongoing and unfinished project

In the game against Port we matched and bettered their desire and intensity for two and a half quarters. When 20 points up we shut shop. We can match these better sides but we either donโ€™t show up or get too comfortable when we have some control and lose momentum.ย Seriously after having a byeย there were no excuses to be goaless for the last 40 minutes. I am convinced the worst of our problems are in the headspace.

Was it us so much shutting shop or having our doors closed by someone else ? Thats how i see it. We do ok til we're denied....then we're stuck !!

That is 100% right. We are mentally soft.

Is it just me or is Cameron Ling the worst commentator going around? No wonder ratings are down. Bruce has lost the plot and every comment is followed by "don't you think" "isn't he" or "aye" - it's cringeworthy.

Oh and Rance is getting found out to be the dog and [censored] he is.

Ling is woeful but Derwayne is next level shite. He's really got it all -ย lack of knowledge, repetition, smugness, absolute bias, little effort in pronunciation of names. And he packs every bit of this into every single game. Andย can always be relied upon the ratchet it up a bitย at the Cattery. It's at the point where Iย now applaud his capacity to maintain a career.

I do hold hope for us this yearย that we have 'one night' where it all clicks, and our pressure matches Rich & Syd and we capitalise on almost every scoring opportunity with great luck thrown in. And then after the opposition tries to claw back, our defence has their best night in years and absorbs everything thrown at them. I was hoping it could be a top 4 battle with Richmond that catapults us into a prelim, but i've wound down my expectation and hopeย to a 5-8 MCG battle with Collingwood.

Bruce: Ablett squeezes a pass

WTF Bruce, itโ€™s a kick

he makes me nauseous!!

Imagine Ablett, or any Cats player, complaining that an oppo player has dropped his knees and drawn the 'in the back' free kick.

They are the undisputed experts at it.

Geelong, Channel 7 and a woeful Bulldog outfit, you'd have to be a masochist to not have planned/switched over to a movie night instead.

Thats it I have seen it all. Listening to Bruce carry on about that Narkle is sickening. He has a new one to cream himself over. Disgusting.

Let the 'mute' be your friend ;)

Guthrie blocks the drop of the ball and gets a free. Even the umpires are confused by the rules.ย

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourneโ€™s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time atย Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: โ€œIs Melbourne even at the ground?โ€ Moments later, as Carltonโ€™s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demonsโ€™ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.ย
