Elite runner, great speed, sloppy disposer.

Not sure how he'll address our diabolical use going inside 50.

As long as we use the ball with more spread he’ll help by opening up a truckload of space.

A lot of our inside 50 problems come because we attack so directly the defenders are always in good positions. We’re running head on in to a wall. A simple switch at half back or through half forward then opens up so much more space for our forwards.

I really like the combination of Langdon, Fritsch and Baker as a wing/half forward rotation. Endurance, class, pace.

We finally got Baker and Fritsch on the wing against Freo and started to move the ball. And that was using Hunt as the 3rd option, mainly to try to sit on Hill. Having Langdon to sit on Hill would let the other two attack.

I’ll take some poor ball use from Langdon if it means we finally have a wingman with the right speed, endurance and good stoppage craft.

“I reckon he’s bound to Victoria at the very least,” Cleary said on AFL.com.au.

“Melbourne’s coming the hardest for Ed Langdon. It’s hard to see him being at the Dockers. He’s flirted with the opportunity at going home to Victoria a number of times.

“He’s officially put contract talks on hold now. If I was a betting man, Ed Langdon will be playing in Victoria.”

Whom would you put in that category that is realistically available, and how do we get them?

I have taken a spell this year LN, for my own mental health so am not across it totally but I'd look to pluck a few from the top sides, GWS, Tigers and Cats for a start and go hard at any free agents. I just feel like we have far too many flaky meat and potato types (always have). I'd be going harder for Hill than I would Langdon for eg.

Yeah agree with everything you've said mate! At first I wasn't into this year's trading and drafting because I thought I wouldn't need to be, but now it's more just being so flat about the season it's hard to be positive for next year.

As a pure hypothetical, would you consider trading Brayshaw and a 3rd or 4th round pick for Langdon and Hill?

I like Brayshaw but something seems amiss with him, maybe he tries to show off too much on his left and I actually think hes a sooky type of person. He speaks well and seems professional though, I'm unsure about picks but I'd seriously consider it for Brad Hill, not Langdon though. Half of Brayshaws issues seem to be coaching related also, for eg he came third in a brownlow as a midfielder yet Goodwin does stupid things like play Lewis as a mid and Brayshaw on a wing. I wouldn't be surprised if Angus was currently disgruntled.

Yeah that's part of the reason why I think there's a possibility he may request a trade. I don't want to trade him as such, but given all the factors with his happiness, the call of WA, playing with his brother, us and Freo both getting what we need, it's just something I think could potentially happen.

Assuming your hypothesis is correct, is it at all professional to let your personal grievances to a) affect your team and b) potentially affect your trade value.

We betta not trade Bradshaw for Langdon.

Maybe Goodwin could play brayshaw in the guts and stop [censored] him around so that he gets pizzed  off and requests a trade.

I get players have to play different positions but ffs if u r down on confidence put him in his best position.

Its not rocket science but appears to be sometimes.

Why are we chasing another defender??

i think a bit of outside speed might be required like it has for the last 10 seasons.

Langdon isn't a defender.  Not from what I've seen anyway.  And he has what you're asking for - outside speed.

Langdon is Jayden Hunt-like (circa 2016-2017), only he gets more of the ball. I'll back our FD if that's who they want, but he wouldn't have me jumping around with excitement.

I'll be interested to see how we negotiate with Freo as well after the rubbish from last year.  I can't see them attempting to do us any favours, although finishing on the bottom means we possibly hold all the cards in terms of him going into something like the pre-season draft.

Article linked above says Hill still had 2 years on his contract so would be difficult to pry him out this year.

Seriously mate? You think he's the sooky type? Based on what? This is twaddle.

Goodwin did play in the guts this year. He got exposed for lack of pace and poor decision making and disposal.

No safety net with 6 6 6. Too much space and lack of pace has exposed brayshaw.

I hope the kid is injured or the rules change for his sake because we have too many slow one paced poir disposal inside mids

langdon appeals from an outside speed factor, but the only way you'd want brayshaw being in the trade was if it was for freo's first plus langdon for brayshaw and our, i dunno, third or something

langdon is a gut running ball sprayer who doesn't seem to be a big tackler - two out of three traits that'll fit right in with the rest of our side!

surely we'd get him for second round pick, perhaps even swapping ours and freo's thirds if required

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
