Changes his avatar to a DC character to show his support.

Many Jumpers have the name Who stitched on the back of the collar

it’s all about change Ethan

It will always be Fortress Shithole to me.

Just realized the worst thing of all - can you even imagine the cringe inducing puns that will be coming from commentators like BT and Dwayne Russell.

Shudders.....

immersive experiences etc ... reminds me of the shaking movie chairs for Earthquake and 3D movies... such a success.

Frankly selling out to a US comic book franchise kind of sits well with my thoughts on where the present AFL administration wants to take the game.

Did you know that the US government passed a special law to ensure that Mickey Mouse and friends never went out of copyright whereas our old Oz characters are fair game.

Any chance the MCG will ever sell naming rights?

I believe the MCG is heritage listed so I don't think it's possible to. Thank God.

Marvel Comics have been going bad since they introduced a SJW agenda into their comics. Comic book stores in America are going broke since comic book readers just want a good story instead of politics, social justice and diversity shoved down their throats.

As for their movies, they seem to be going well; as for their stadium, time will tell.

For those who have not read a Marvel Comic for a while, here is an example:

Except I changed my avatar before the announcement was made public - ?

I like it.

But would’ve preferred they called it Frank Castle.

You do realise The Flash is DC not Marvel? What comic book can I find Dr Whoooooooo in?

I agree with this. Kids will love this. Disney, Marvel and the AFL have a great opportunity from an entertainment perspective.

I agree going to be a quality interactive experience Victoria needs a theme park to rival Queensland or Hong Kong. This could be stage 1 and if the AFL manage the project - this could be a stroke of genius.

Overall this easily could be a multibillion dollar project to put AFL football into the global sphere of big time sports entertainment.

What a balls up of a stadium name at first glance. I like Marvel but geez. I guess it will be good for the kids.

Our game is Grooted.

We don’t need a theme park at a football match.

The entertainment is the football

yep... just down the road from the Big wheel ... such a success ... not to mention the restaurants that fail almost by the week down in Docklands.

The only good thing about the stadium is that it has a roof that stops the icy winds off the Yarra pool cutting you to pieces.

Have you studied the number of failed theme parks in NSW? Does the 20th century Fox theme park ring any bells? Just have a look at the capital investment required per ride and then do the sums on the attendances needed to break even.

And just to remind you Docklands Stadium itself was a financial failure... AFL bailed out the financiers by taking a long term playing commitment after which the stadium reverted to the AFL. The original investors including the State Government took a bath.

The next battle for the AFL is how to renegotiate the deal that the original owners did with the Medallion club and its members. Not much return on those seats I can assure you.

We all realise not only football is played there, right?

Not sure you or many Demonland old timers is  the target market AFL and Disney are looking at.

Nailed it, Versatility and partnerships where both parties can benefit from the others core competencies. AFL is a well run sports entertainment business - massive amount of possible highly profitable opportunities will start to become deliverable.

Most importantly clubs can derive income from entertainment businesses-  markets that were never accessible in the past.

  • FEATURE: 1925

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.
