i wouldn't laugh dan, but he seems surplus to our requirements.. i reckon we have other priorities anyway. but if he's going cheap, why not?

I think you answered your own question in the first half of your sentence. Even if a player is "going cheap" they still take a spot on the list and consume some salary cap.

So it's a best 22 line up you want hey?

COLIN B. FLAUBERT'S ALL TIME GREATEST STARTING 22:

FB: John West Salmon

HB: Howe Watts Wenn*

C Love Yeo Darling

HF: Mann Leays Hogg

FF: Smart Lyon King

R: Gawn Long Miles

I/C Dick Hird

      Ware Wolf

* Stuart Wenn  is an umpire but it just seemed right including him here.

Nice work. I'm not going to prepare a full team, but I know that my half-back line is going to be Christian Battle Lyon.

And I didn't even get around to including  my emergencies.

who would you rather have on the list la dee? darcy moore or jkh? or, let's just say, a mature-aged recruit from brissie or something? surely, if moore only cost a late rounder or something, we'd bite.

You said that you would put a player who is surplus to requirements on the list if they came cheaply. I just think that statement is internally contradictory. If they're surplus to requirements you are wasting the limited number of slots allowable on a list for a player who, by your own definition, shouldn't be on the list. I'd rather take an unknown in the draft and see if they develop into someone who is useful.

Wow. By eliminating use of the upper case and now whole words, you've really minimised the amount of effort you need to produce your posts.

Get a few of those from Trevor Marmalade's All-Star team from the early 90's, Colin?

Well spotted.

The HF line was too good to leave out.

I would have thought Carey Lade Kelly might give you a bit more bang for your buck.

For the coming draft, Melbourne has -

* no picks in the first round;

* one second round pick;

* two third round picks; and

* no picks in the fourth round.

We need to trade to get into the first round.

I think that’s going to happen.

Well,  we are going to be busy in the off-season,  aren't we?

Not sure anyone was predicting so many changes to the primary list ... and being a major player in the first round of the draft is suddenly on the radar.

Thankfully,  It looks like we won't lose any more than 1 of our top players so we could describe the changes as a major rebuild of our depth with hopefully a few diamonds in the rough emerging.

Yes it would seem Jason Taylor and co have been very busy for some time now. I thought maybe one or two gone such as Tyson and Garlett? Now with in a week we could see Jesse gone as well as Vanders on the move. Also moving up the draft into the first round.

Looking forward to see what happens.

  • REPORT: West Coast

    On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

    It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
