Sure it was a pressure kick and he worked hard to get out the back.Ā  It was however an uncontested possession and a stroll in to 30m.

I believe the overall moment was special, right up there with T Mac’s ā€œ Geniusā€ game winner in the West.

The Melbourne roar after the goal was possibly the loudest we have heard at the GĀ in a long long time.Ā It felt bloody good to hear such a roar with so many MFC supporters going absolutely bonkers with elation and that would have been the case if any of the other 21 players had kicked that goal.

Perhaps it should be known as 'the closure goal'?

That's such a mean spirited summary, SJ

He ran the length from the back 50 to ready to be the next link to finish with the goal

I would have loved to see the ball in Bugg's hands as he 'strolled' into 30m

I wouldn't. Watts is an elite kick.

I like this guys field kicking. He has that really silky/classy look about him the way he gathers the footy and puts boot to ball. I think he will be quite the headache when it comes to matching up on him. That intercept leapfrogging mark inside forward 50.Ā

So am I - but don't downplay Watts' goalĀ

It was a ripper

Fair point. It was a class goal and plenty of others would have fluffed it. No one doubts Watts has class skills.

I have this guy in the very top echelon of young players on our list.Ā

A great talent and has the temperament to boot.Ā

Finds time and space where there is none,Ā  makes good decisions,Ā  highly skilful and outstanding courage and judgement in the air.Ā

I love the way he moves, reminds of past MFC champions Lyon and Flower.Ā  Ā He just floats around and know which spots to be in.Ā  He is a superb mark of the footy.

And before anyones melts down, I am not saying he will be as good as those two guys.

Who knows what the future holds, but Fritsch certainly has the body of Flower. THIN!

Interesting comparison, this season Fritsch V Watts. Table from footywire.

I wonder with what PortĀ now know, if given their time again would they keep pick 31 and go for Fritsch instead of Ā trading for Watts?

as far as i'm concerned all supporters who said losing Watts was going to hurt us should be banned from footy forums.Ā  fritsch's attack on the ball and man is head and shoulders better than watts and further highlights that you dont need a big frame toĀ have courageĀ

I doubt that they would have drafted Bayley with their pick but I am happy with our end of the trade.

He's starting to show some real versatility. He's working really hard on the wings with his running and his decision making and disposal has been excellent. Knows how to spread and find space. Playing his role perfectly.

What I have noticed about Fritsch is that he seems to have a great awareness when taking a mark to knowĀ if he is rightĀ to turn around and play on. Really helps in opening up the field in front.Ā

Had him in my round 1 team predictions and the reasoning was that he would be too good to ignore.

What a steal, and all we had to give up was Watts.

Where was all this vigilance when the potential trade was happening?

Unbelievable

We respond to posts as they get reported using the ā€œreport postā€ featureĀ or as we stumble across them. We don’t read every single post - that’s doubly true during very busy periods like the trade period. Sometimes if I’m busy, 10 pages will be added to threads in between me viewing.

If you see untoward things happening in threads, use the ā€œreport postā€ feature to bring it to a moderators attention.

Fritsch and Hannan compliment our mids perfectly. They are both relatively quick, skilled and can take an overhead mark and are reliable shots on goal.

We looked way too slow on the flanks when these guys weren't playing. Can't see Tyson getting back in unless we get an injury to one of our inside mids. What a luxury to have Tyson and Hunt as emergencies! May it continue....

Mmmm indeed, I really rate Hannan, and don't at all buy into each player needing to have an 'even contribution' throughout each quarter to be seen as a pass mark to getting a game the next week.Ā

ps: can you add 'grumpy dom' as your photo - Ā as seen in the song being sung vs carlton :)Ā

Let's not revel in one of our players misfortune too much; he is one of our own and deserves our respect as a player and clubman.

I'm not a hater of Dom at all... there is no revelling...it's merely a snapshot of him at a point in time, we can acknowledge the happy and the shitty feelings no?

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.Ā  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
