nic nat was always clear that he was always set up staying / returning to western australia

my top 10 08 re-drafted would be:

1. haneberry
2. sloane
3. beams
4. sidebottom
5. davis
6. shuey
7. hurley
8. hill
9. walters
10. picken

This is very close to what I would have. Media is a Bummer love fest there days. AFL directed of course. Cal Twomey is a Bummer fan too. Reckon Jetts would be top 15. Not sure where Watts would be.

Plus interesting to note

a/ the club with the highest FD spending Eagles got it right

b/ the best draft and development team on the list (Essendon) nailed Hurley at 5

NicNat holds the combine record for the running leap. But you'd have him easily covered with this effort.

Well, if anyone needs cheering up, just look forward to doing the 2014 'redraft' in a couple more years, which will have Isaac Heeney and three Demons in the top 3, then fresh air.

Three?  Admittedly, there's not a lot there, but Gus has missed basically an entire season while Petracca is inconsistent and not impacting games enough.  I'll give you Lever, but the other two aren't any better than guys like De Goey, Cockatoo, Weller or Wright.  They would probably feature in the top ten, but I don't necessarily see them going top five.

Think you may have missed the optimistic 'cheering up' angle of LG's post.

It's gonna be our boys then fresh air, I tell ya, fresh air!

Plus, we bid on Heeney, so really he's ours too.

I dont have Gus in my 22. I cant see the reason for all the enthusiasm. I hope Im wrong.

But to have him top 5 in his draft year - wow.

It reminds me of a Beatles interview in there younger days

"Hey John, what do you think about Ringo being voted best drummer in the world?"

"He isnt even the best drummer in the band".

Funny.  I really rate Gus.  There's nothing spectacular in his game, but there are no weaknesses either.  His pace is good, he has better skills than the majority of the list, he can win his own ball and he's a very smart player.

What makes me laugh the most about most of these so called "redrafts" is even after you have seen ever player play x number of games you still get a fair amount of disagreement.

Yet so many "forums experts" are critical of individuals who make the initial selections and thats where there involvement ends - it over to the coaches, the conditioning and fitness staff & in some cases the doctors, surgeons and injury recovery staff.

However, interestingly only the recruiters cop the blame or grab the glory - very amusing.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
