Jumping Jack Clennett 1,825 Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 After Lethlean's demise, the AFL is seeking a new Football Operations Manager. There has been talk of Garry Pert, Nathan Buckley, the Geelong or Brisbane CEO's succeeding him. I'm worried they'll pinch Peter Jackson. Is there anything to worry about?
SFebes 4,884 Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 It'll be Pert, too coincidental for mine.Win/Win all around.
bandicoot 1,395 Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 Didn't PJ recommit for a couple more years?
jnrmac 20,385 Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 PJ would be perfect and THB I was worried about this as soon as the Lethlean saga unfolded. Nonetheless if he did go we are on a much sounder footing now and we would have a strong ally in AFL HQ

The 52-year-old ruled out applying for the vacant role as the AFL's general manager of football operations, saying his immediate priority was to spend more time with his family. http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-07-24/magpies-ceo-gary-pert-resigns
rjay 25,427 Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 PJ is a business manager not a football manager, I wouldn't be too worried. ...on Pert, I see he wants to spend more time with his family. That's usually code for being pushed.
McQueen 17,867 Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 Is the position even up on Seek yet? Might have a crack.
chookrat 4,268 Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 I reckon Hirdy would be a lock for the position.
bluey 1,124 Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 Pert is just taking the fall for Ed and Bucks, the Ferals were needing a body in the bag!
Wrecker45 3,381 Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 Mark Neeld is the obvious. Barry Pendergast a close second as recruitment and development manager as well.

Lucifers Hero 40,746 Posted July 24, 2017 Posted July 24, 2017 PJ has made a strong commitment to the Dees and I think he will stay till he finishes what he started. Also, he is at the tail end of his career and is more of a 'trouble shooter' than a 'career' placement. I'm more worried that the AFL or another club will pinch Josh Mahoney. He is maklng a fine name for himself and well deserved accolades come his way. He is starting his career and it is always good to get experience in different environments. His non-playing experience is all at the MFC. I do hope he also stays the distance with us but at some time he might just get an offer he can't refuse.
