The media rubbish at the moment is mostly complete noise and based on my observations, I have confidence that Goodwin, the rest of our FD and leadership group will do a pretty good job at blocking it out from influencing his thinking and hopefully also that of the team.

Robo on 360 last night (along with many of the other media twits) was questioning if Melbourne had a cultural problem, but looking back, on Goodwin's actions thus far, it's clear he has lifted expectations and standards even further than Roos and the club's respone to issues that have occurred has been first class.  Goodwin was not shyed away from taking the hard line all year, from Jack Watts, to the drunken four.

Incidentally, if the drunken four's on feild response is as good as Clayton's, then I say the club should go old school and let the players get on the piissss after every game... heck get Swarta to take them out to the races and then onto King Street for all I care.

Irrespective of the story (its always muck racking or fluff pieces) - how nice is it to have relevance. As far as I am concerned that is all that matters...

Yet it was the AFL that basically set up and imposed Peter Jackson on the MFC.  I don't think they would have done that if your narative above was true.  We cab all be thankful for that and hindsight has shown it to be one of the most prudent administrative moves by the AFL in decades.

We have been given the chance to survive yes. Being a Power club is a totally different thing.

The Media would prefer us to be down

Trouble is, we're interesting.

Couple of weeks ago; "Demons surge into premiership contention on back of ferocious, team-first game".

This week; "Demons have unrealistic view of their position, lack team culture and are over-the-top with their aggression"

I'll rephrase. Trouble is, we're interesting and they're vapid gits.

We'll cope.

How beautifully expressed. Economical and accurate.

I said it after the game on Friday (watching on Fox Footy) and I'll say it again now...

Paul Roos was the only person on that commentary team that had any idea what he was talking about post-game (e.g. not pumping up Swans, not bashing us, citing valid points regarding the 6-day breaks, injuries etc). Maybe it's because of his ties with MFC, but maybe it's because the rest of em are clueless imbeciles. I'd go with the latter.

Not just Roos. All on SEN Crunch Time, including David King, said it means nothing, 4 games in 18 days, swans 4 games in 22 days, can't ignore past month, best 6 out injured, great Goodwin coaching around no ruckman. This was also  reflected by those who know elsewhere.

The rest are just content-chasers like Sam McClure etc.

In this environment, relevancy and publicity is everything  - except T. Bugg issue of course - but still in that case  this issue enabled Captain Nathan Jones to come out with a class act media interview which made all news services and the Age that day.

And illustrated the strength of the leadership group. as well

All good.

Correct, my daddy always told me 'never let Melbourne have success again as a Footy Club' so i went into the world knowing that my daddy was right, because they used to own that big building near all the railway lines and i used to be reminded of that every time i went to work, so there,,,,,,

How great is this...

Mark Robinson was just on AFL360 questioning Melbourne and our undisciplined behaviour with Jordan Lewis. He then turned to Jack Riewoldt and says 'It's not at like at Richmond, where I can't recall one undisciplined act this year'. And without skipping a beat Anthony Hudson chimes in with 'Ahhh, Bachar Houli last week'.

Classic.

It perfectly sums up how short term the current AFL news cycle is, and how quickly it shifts.

Mark Robinson is genuinely thick.

Unfortunately the average Australian really relates to that though.

The AFL love to look to the states for comparison in professional sport. They should look at their media. Yes, both the NFL and NBA TV media have ex players in the mix they are in the minority and are often really good media people. An example is Shaq. Funny, smart as a whip and insightful.

We love to emulate the Yanks, except in one significant aspect of sports broadcasting - the Yanks almost always use a trained commentator to do the play by play. They even have university courses for sports casting. Hence Joe Buck, Howard Cosell, Pat Summerall, Al Michaels, Dick Stockton, Bob Costas, etc are trained to call the game, or they are already journalists.

The ABC is a pretty good training ground for callers, but all too often we elevate the likes of BT or Drayne.

Match a trained caller with a good voice with a former player who knows his onions.

Bad News always sells media.

So they look for a great way to turn any news into bad news.

Melbourne haven't had bad news apart from injuries and suspensions,

But we learned to find a way and win games.

When Gawn went down followed by pencil I thought we were done and dusted, but we found by moving players into different roles they could still win most times.

Last Friday after 3 x 6 day breaks we were the walking dead. A team just waiting to be thrashed.

To me it was obvious. We now are in another challenging situation, no captains and another couple of walk up players on the sidelines.

We have had a small break to freshen us up. Just wait and see what the media say next week.......silence
