There a some players from lots of Clubs that are not treated well at all, and the insidious Media are not going to enter The Pearly Gates because of it. They, the Media, know who they are, but they have done the "deeds" now.

You're fooling yourselves if you think they were any thing if not elated by these times......

Exactly my thoughts. I just can't understand why a player would spontaneously punch an opponent in the jaw without any provocation or niggle - particularly after the Houli drama. Unless, of course Bugg is an absolute madman.

I too give Bugg the benefit of the doubt and think he was only trying to make contact to the shoulder/upper chest - which made Ling's sanctimony a bit grating, especially as he then to utterly dismissed the next hit on Bugg as playing for a free.

Perhaps I'm being too defensive of a demon player. 4 is right, I feel.

It's probably true that he was only trying to make contact to the shoulder/chest.

It doesn't matter.

If you're going to punch someone in that area, you have to cop the consequences of messing that up and hitting them in the head. It's the same principle that should have had Schofield suspended.

I have a hunch the club will add a week to the AFL suspension.  Melbourne have a PR problem; probably moreso that the "unsociable Hawks" of circa 2007/8.

If "we don't stand for it", we need to live the values as well as talk them.  Furthermore, he will be a convenient scapegoat for the good-will gesture.

There are a lot of pathetic posts in relation to Bugg. He is one of our players. He gives his all.

He tries to play on the edge and last night he crossed the line. It was a bad mistake no question. He will pay for it. Not the least because, unlike Houli, everyone is happy to pot him.

He clearly doesn't get the 'good bloke' discount. The commentary last night was disgraceful. They were happy to let their lickass friend Buddy get away with a hip to Hannan's head but they stuck the proverbial boots into Bugg.

I support Buggy because he is one of ours. You should too.

I don't support players hitting other players in the face off the ball and knocking them out. I don't care what jumper they wear. 

If the situation was reversed and a Sydney player did this to say Viney, we would want him burnt at the stake. 

Lets not pretend what he did is any less pathetic because he's in a Melbourne jumper. It's worse, because this isn't the sort of [censored] I want someone in a Melbourne jumper doing. 

Ninny from the AFL web wanted to know why it is not being considered to hasten the Tribunal to sit this weekend for Media Commentary expediences?

Rest assured with Wayne H on board the Tribunal it will be happy days....

Unlike Schofield ...who lined up an unsuspecting player when there was no play actually happening  with and elbow to deliberately hit the victim in the face; Bugg reacted ( albeitly careless and recklessly )to another's action. Mills started it.. Bugg finished it. 

 He would not have thought he'd likely hit Mills anywhere in particular...i.e a wild swing. These often miss entirely. This one, was right on the button. 

This neither excuses the action or mitigates the penalty but it does give a context.

Imagine if a swans player threw an off the ball coward punch to a young gun like petracca or Oliver, you'd want them out for at least 10. Defending bugg is ridiculous.

From what I've watched/read in interviews, the players really enjoy having him around. He adds a level of confidence and some arrogance around the place which isn't necessary a bad thing. It was a silly thing but I really doubt he meant to land one like that.

I'd actually love to see the club come out before the tribunal and say we don't stand for off the ball sniping. As a result, we are giving him a __(3-6) wk suspension and if the tribunal does less then he loses out and if the tribunal do more then he doesn't. but it puts us in a good position :).

And then it would really make the tribunals decision interesting then wouldn't it..

At lot of hysteria going on here, bugg threw a punch like Lewis earlier in the year the only difference his Cripps can take a hit Mills can't. Bugg will get his time and we should move on [censored] happens

Don't get me wrong.

i have no tollorence for thuggery.

But why oh why do incidents become so puritanical that cause and (then effect) become so isolated?

This is not to excuse Bugg from his actions.  Yet in the footage it is obvious he had some batting or other from the swans player before he struck out.

When are we going to learn, just b/c the law now recognizes that provocation in a murder trial does nothing to excuse the actions of a perpetrator that there are other extenuating circumstances.

 

Im sick and tired of incidents being scrutinized by media who hold no account for their own making.

 

As said, I hold no tollorence for Buggs actions.

 

I wonder though how much profit is garnered from the ensuring 'debate' and what really caused Bugg to lash out.

the media is playing this up to the hilt, he plays for melbourne so he will get the maximum and then some, and the AFL will issue a statement to say they are going to penalise anyone that does this harshly (unless they play for collingwood, Westcoast, Sydney, Hawthorne, Geelong or Richmond, and a couple of other teams that aren't melbourne). This will be a repeat of the sling tackle our player will serve as a lesson to others.

 

All in all it was a dumb act, that fired up the swans. and even when the umpire reversed the free we didnt have the basic skill to make the most of it. dumb all round.

the vilification of Bugg is way over the top here. yes he hit him yes he'll cop 4 weeks. no way worse than Bachar last week. definitely connected way better than what bugg expected and for that he will have month holiday from footy

hes been hung to dry by yhe media - tge guys calling the game who have been up in arms - BT carey brereton king all made a career out of whacking blokes but are now dead against it... i dont think so, they've just been 'mediafied' and love headline journalism

where was this outcry when Colin Sylvia had his jaw busted off the ball against wedt coast. the bloke that elbowed him didnt even get reported or cop weeks. 

 

sounds like the ex swan player henwood will be a member of this weeks tribunal. Really with so many footballers they couldnt choose panel members that have no past history with either club involved in a case.
