It's all over but not in the usual way. Both teams have agreed to call time early in the last quarter with the Casey Demons winning by 6 goals. A huge downpour, wild winds and lightning have conspired to bring the game to a premature end. The score remained unchanged from ¾ time.

With Gawn out Spencer is an automatic inclusion.

Hannan Weideman and Harmes are in the gun for me.

Anyone know how our players went today??

This from the AFL site:

"Jake played [for Casey] today and he's the second ruck and the logical option, but we'll sit down during the week and assess what we're going to do," Goodwin said.

Spencer had around 30 hit-outs, 12 disposals and kicked a goal for Casey in its 31-point victory over Werribee in a VFL practice match on Saturday.

Footnote:  Apparently the match was called off just after 3/4 time because of thunder storms.

Kielty will have to play FP or first ruck. Maybe Harmes will go back.

The Casey Demons game for round 1 will be against Williamstown on Easter Monday at Burbank Oval at 2.00pm.

Thx Mr C. Is there any summary of best players from last nights shortened match by any chance?

Why doesn't the Melbourne Football Club make a request the the VFL starts when the AFL starts their season. The WAFL starts two weeks prior to the AFL,since they have only 8 teams they play each other 3 times. How can you pick backup players on form if their season starts rd3 to rd4 of the AFL season. Other Victorian based sides should band together a protest. The development league is worst.

Remembering that the game was shortened due to very bad weather:

Ruckman Jake Spencer seems the most logical replacement for the injured Max Gawn, who sustained a right hamstring injury against Geelong.

Spencer lined up in Casey's final pre-season practice game and had 30 hit-outs, 12 touches and kicked a goal in the 31-point win.

Casey coach Justin Plapp told AFL.com.au on Sunday that Spencer dominated the hit-outs and "was able to mark the ball really well around the ground".

Plapp said defender Sam Frost looked a lot more comfortable in his second game back from a toe injury, as he continues to build match fitness.

The Casey coach added omitted midfielder Angus Brayshaw (25 disposals) was clean by hand at ground level and "showed signs of what we need him to be doing contest to contest".

MFC alone wouldn't be taken notice of but if the whole Vic based clubs protested possibly there could be some traction

It's half time in the Development League game with the Demons in front

Casey Demons 5.7.37 6.8.44

Williamstown 1.1.7 3.7.25

As usual, the wind will be an influence today.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
