Beautiful morning in Melbourne, going to be 31 today (cheers Ron Barassi!).

Into 3 groups for skills/evasive work with assistants. Misso comes over and carefully rearranged a cone that a toddler/spectator had carried around for a while

Three sets of 60 metre sprints.

Petracca just leads Melksham for 2, Melksham pips him on third.

Johnstone impressive but Clarrie runs him down in third. Keilty is quite quick.

It's this sort of attention to detail that typifies New Melbourne.

30 metre passing, full ground. Assistant (couldn't tell which) calls them in because they aren't doing enough when they haven't got ball

Awesome. Moving without the ball has been my biggest problem with us for 10 years!

Cheers for the reports btw WW

Which is why we've been utterly shite from kick-ins and going forward.

There's quite a bit of 'dissatisfaction' being expressed by the assistants today. It's a lazy day sunshine type of Monday! I don't think the squad are particularly poor... I think it's time to crank it up!

First time long time guys & girls.

Very excited for the year ahead, somehow managing to keep a lid on it however.

Getting slightly concerned re the training reports and Dean Kent ... seems something suss is going on.

Any word on what is happening there?

The iron boundary rail is too hot to lean on now as they break into small groups again. The group near me are doing a run and carry activity which is very willing. Wagner puts White down, Hoges flips Garlett over into a barrel roll. Rawlings is barking instructions... first demanding more, then full of praise for intensity and decision making

Groups rotate now. Standouts in previous group, Watts, Jones, Wagner. Slight errors by foot... Billy, Oscar. In new group Clayton holds on to ball for too long... a little later he is monstered by Max, but bounces up and gets straight back into it. Bernie excels by foot. Kielty is praised for two great intercepts

Harmes been doing well, Judy just took on Maynard and won. Johnstown pops it up a little high for Kielty, but he marks and handballs back to Johnstone who has run on impressively... he nails a 'goal'. Rawlings calls them in, then they rest. Max is outstanding in these small team games

Hannan putting some space between him and Filipivic as they run the boundary... perhaps he got a jump start. This rehab group, which includes ANB has continued, hard at it, throughout the session. The main group are in the centre now setting up the next drill. A trainer holds up the magnets to allocate teams/roles

11 v 8 defenders between the HF lines. Long Petracca pass cut off by Hibberd, he passes over the back to a running Spencer, but Jetta runs him down and stops him in a vice like tackle

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the

We'll break down the Match SIM against North Melbourne and wrap up the preseason with insights into training and our latest recruits.
