I am not sure why we are debating money paid to Dawes ( apart from accuracy) 

At a players best he is worth $X. It costs $X amount to lure a player out of a club. Tom Mitchell apparently is being paid more at Hawthorn than at the Swans. We paid a good sum to get Dawes to the MFC. It didn't work out. We have paid rookies a rookies salary and not one game has been played. Lynden Dunn was paid a salary and we got 4 matches out of him. We have had high hopes for JKH in the first season yet he has hardly played a game in the last two seasons. Do we reflect on every player that hasn't got many games and bemoan that they were being paid ? Or the reverse - Anything paid to Jayden Hunt up until this season has been nothing more than an investment in the future as he didn't get a game. Now Hunt is looking like a decent investment.  Some players work out  - some players don't.

From where I am sitting Dawes put in, wasn't a disruptive prima donna as some footballers are . Bottom line is - his body did not allow him to play enough games and when he did he didn't take enough marks or kick enough goals.

And you can add that not one player has held a gun to the head of a club and demanded a particular level of payment. Apart from players on the EBA base salary, every player has been made an offer by the club which they've chosen to accept.

Well I guess the Dawes vs Pedersen arguement is settled once and for all.

Correct ! On that - I have never understood the angst on perceived differences between player and club on pay claims.

We have players that are perceived to be in demand  - players and their managers ask  - the club can agree or disagree. Then there are players like Cam Pedersen who I perceive to have little demand outside our club - The club dictates and the player can agree or disagree. This is how the game works.

lets just look at senior list players = 40 x 18 = 720 and not worry about rookie upgrades

200.2m / 720 = 278k average payment per senior list player (2015)

now lets look at your original statement " Average AFL salary is 380k ", no qualifications. You then conceded that was wrong and the figure should be $330 basing that on a published article for 2015 figures claiming the average was $300k. Presumably you then added 10% guesstimate for 2016 to arrive at $330?

the article says the 300k figure is derived from  "that senior listed players and rookies nominated for senior elevation before round one earned an average wage of $302,104".  now 720 x 302 = 217.446M. Maybe you can explain to a simpleton like me where the extra 17M+ comes from (and its actually more because the 200.2m total payments quoted is for all players, not just senior listed).

I suspect they have fudged it somewhere to come up with the nice rounded figure of 300k. no doubt part of the usual obfuscation of the afl to paint the figures better than they are as they negotiate with the aflpa for big increases due to the new tv rights bonanza they just got. Due to the afl's recent record i don't just take afl statements automatically at face-value. ymmv

Am I glad or happy he is gone is not a question that crosses my mind. Do i understand why he was delisted and do i agree with decision ? Absolutely. 

There can be obvious exceptions when we believe a player doesn't give it his best or is disruptive or dishonest about the way he leaves the club. But that is a rarity.

Thanks to any player who came to our club, gave it their best shot and for one of many reasons didn't make it.

Is there any chance of resigning Dawes as a rookie on rookie coin? Do we have room on our list for this? 

Still vulnrable with our CHF position if pedo gets injured. Weids might be one season off from a regular game

Nobody knows when a player signs on how they will turn out.

The only other way would be to have every player in the AFL on purely performance based contracts, which would be a logistic nightmare and won't happen. 

Agree Nutbean. The payment issue wreaks of absolute small mindedness. AFL players get paid - it's a professional sport. That some people here still can't wrap their head around this (and the sums involved) diminishes their opinion in relation to this issue.

Plainly, Dawes took his contract seriously and he was committed to the club - he just failed to deliver. I expect, more than anyone else, he's upset about that.
