I think it is fair that Gawny the only one from us. Half way through Jack Viney would have not just been in the squad but the 22 but his second half of the season was just not as strong.

Gee it stings to see the name Scully in there....

Seems about right that only Gawn is the only player named from the Dees. Viney and Watts both had stellar years but were probably a bit too inconsistent at times to make the top 40.

Regardless, first time in six years we've been relevant in the AA discussion! Well done Maxy on a brilliant season!

Urgh. Bontempelli. The most overrated player in the league.

Gee, he's a good player. Gets 24 touches and kicks a goal. Is that seriously good enough to be in the 40 man AA squad? It just shows that the selectors have been swept up in the media hysteria pedaling his overinflated worth.

Glad for Gawny though. He's been a shoe in for the last month.

If your name is Pendlebury you get an automatic spot every season even if you dont deserve it

Seems to be the case. Pendlebury was very ordinary at times this year.

Jetta not being in the squad is a joke.

Its an all star team - not an attempt to name a realistic lineup.

I think it is fair enough - he is behind Rampe for lock down small defender for mine

I also think there was a patch of a month just after his re-signing was announced that cost him a place in the 40. His game down at Geelong wasn't too flash either, but I'd say the team was already sorted by then.

Congrats to Max, a worthy selection. McDonald and Watts are the only others I would have given some chance to, and Watts' finish to the year was poor. I'm not sure McDonald is as far off the pace of Rance and McGovern as some around here seem to think.

I reckon next year, if either Viney or Tyson can hold their best form for most of the year they'll get in there. both have played half seasons and that's probably going to be enough to get them top 10 B&F finishes for us.

Viney too.

Congratulations Max, amazing achievement to do exactly what he wanted to do in his first full season - become the best ruckman in the competition. It's a testament to his will power and dedication to the club and his own goals. Here's hoping he'll take his game to yet another level in 2017.

For a moment I was a little disappointed that Nev didn't get a mention even in the extended squad, but then I looked closer and realised that there are no 'true' small defenders in the entire list. Just the sweeping rebounding types like Simpson and Shaw.
Not taking anything from those players, but it interesting that according to the 'wisest selectors in the game' (herp) there is no longer a place for small defenders.

Gawn...congratulations for stellar season.

To me it s a sad reflection on our remaining senior players.  Nathan Jones has never made the AA even in his best years.  Sadly for NJ I think his ability is not AA, and he carries too much baggage from the bad old days.  It also shows that all our mid tier senior players are also rans and not AA ability. We have too much inconsistency at the leadership level, and this must be a priority for 2017.

the Farce of his AA team is Pendlebury!  Given to him on a plate for an ordinary season.  The selectors let themselves down with such nonsense, this is just BS that he deserves a spot in this years team.

No doubt big Maxy deserves this, but I also get the sense that the AA team is not just about football ability, but an individual's marketability as well.  Max not only has had a great year, but he is also somewhat of a media darling ................ oh, and it also helps if your team is winning crucial games, which get you into finals.  How can they leave Nick Riewoldt out of the squad of 40, over Jack Gunston.  Gunston, even by his standards, has had an ordinary year.  There you go, I just contradicted myself.

Anyway, well done big fella. Richly deserved.

Scully and Gaff seem to be selections to meet a certain quota for wingmen.

Pendlebury deserves selection in the squad. A victim of his own standards. If he makes the 22 it's a different story.

Viney is a bit stiff to miss the squad but Merrett is undoubtedly the unluckiest player. His omission makes me happy. Essendon fans were feeling a little too happy with themselves for my liking.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
