Tired of this "woe is me" attitude... we have not deserved to have an AA player in the past few years although we have had a couple who were very close.

Max has been awesom this year, I hope he can win the brownlow, but knowing the umps they will probably give it to the flashier dangerfield or some other midfielder. Max has shouldered the ruck for the dees all year with only a few minutes of rest each quarter. his contested marking has been exceptional as has been his hard running from end to end every game.

correction, he's been gawnsome!

My favourite thing about Gawn is that he ended up winning the beard competition we were all complaining about back when we were awful. All others crumbled under pressure. Not Gawny.

Bulldust.

Nathan jones deserved to at least be in the 40 on a couple of occasions.

How far behind Django? With 3 games to go is he a chance?

He's 251 behind Goldstein's record from last year (24 games). 3rd on the hitouts/game behind Goldstein and Sandilands (both 2015)

Updated for poor maths

Another number 11 ruckman winning a Brownlow for the Dees. it is coming.

He's the best ruckman in the AFL according to anyone with half a brain I would have thought.

And what's great about this is we got him for a steal at pick 34. The lesson to be learned? Don't spend your first rounders on ruckmen when you can get them late in the draft or even off the rookie list. NikNat and Grundy were wasted picks despite their abilities. Top midfielders or KPPs will always beat out a top ruckman IMO.

No he didn't.

There was definitely one year he should've made the 40.

Those stats are awesome, Max's continuing rise in the AFL's ranks and his chemistry within the mid field group has created a real advantage for us at stoppages and centre clearances and we now have the mid's to be able to utilise that dominance to really hurt the opposition. GO MAX - GO DEE's!!!

Top 40 doesnt make him AA tho. So why even say that? We have not had any one worthy of a AA jumper for a long time.

Whilst I love Gawn's marking I get goose bumps when I see him softly palm the ball down to a vacant space only to see the likes of Jones/Viney/Tyson/Vince hit that exact spot at full pace. It is mastery of the highest order.

So we should also thank the coaches. Is Greg Stafford still our ruck coach?

I will say yes - but I am unsure what is coaching and what is just natural ability.

He was one of those I said were very close, but he was never going to make the AA side as there were far too many better performed midfielders going around at the time.  To say he missed out because he is a Dees player is absolute nonsense... sorry, but I'm tired of these conspiracy theories.

I blame the  AFL. Because of rule changes there have been fewer stoppages and thrown ins this year (did I hear someone recently say 20% fewer throw ins?). Hence, Max will once again be robbed by the AFL of something that would otherwise be rightfully his.

Not to mention 15 goals this year, which places him 5th on the list at Melbourne..

Hogan 39
Watts 37
Garlett 25
Kent 24
Gawn 15

It is what you do with your taps.

Jacobs and Minson - meh..

I would like to see a stat on the most taps to advantage in a season.

Gawn has been devastating...

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
