I dunno where this team will end up - far too many variables for for soothsaying - but most of them are tough. Not thugs, but see ball get ball, get in my way and it's your problem tough. And the toughest are still kids. Maybe they will get a flag, maybe they won't, but we'll win more than we lose and no C grade pretend tough will ever mention the words 'bruise free footy' unless he is talking about his side.

 

That, right now, is gold.

 

Yes they are young and sometimes bigger bodies grind them down, but they won't be pups forever.

No, optimism is different to realism. Realism is about the way things are now. It cannot factor in the future because it's unknown. Optimism acknowledges this fact but chooses to adopt a positive view of what could be. They are different concepts. Pessimism is at the other end of the scale. For once I think we can say that optimist and realist are not mutually exclusive attributes of Demon supporters.

You see, that's optimism. The pessimist would say, Nah, he'll never be any better than his brother, and he's a spud. The realist would say, Nah, I haven't seen anything to suggest he's anything special. The optimist says, I think he will.... 

Dees are looking good. 6-8 blokes that could be champions and the rest seem like they're being trained to play the right way and be good role players.

Financially we seem to be in a good spot, membership slowly creeping up, match attendances pretty good, sponsorship reasonable. Would love PJ to stay forever but if and when he does leave, I'm sure he'll have a solid succession plan in place.

We definitely could still make the finals. It's unlikely, but it's possible. OMG I would love that so much - every time I think about it I get goosebumps! I have this vision that we'll be playing GWS away in the first final and twenty thousand Melbourne supporters will de-camp to Sydney Showgrounds to show those pretenders what history and passion really means!

Whatever happened to young Lovett i thought he was going to play for the Scorpions this year to see if he could handle AFL but, so far i have not seen him listed in any of the Scorpions teams. if he was as good as his old man he would be a great pickup.

One thing to add to the realistic statement, which also adds weight to the optimism statement, and that is the standard of the development of our young players is much better than it was. That is clearly observable.

He's been playing development league. Seems a long way off AFL standard

I'm loving watching the tackles stick. 

It seemed to me, that last year, both  Brayshaw and Jonesy seemed to have a friendly competition for who could hit their tackles the hardest. I could add a dozen more boys this year. 

I found it so frustrating watching our players 'tag' rather than tackle a few years back. It was crushing as a supporter to hear the way we played was soft and to agree with it was a further kick. 

I'm now starting to feel the chest swell when they're on song, smile when dissecting the weekends games with work mates, even when we lose. Even they can admit we are coming, Oliver and Petrecca seem to attract the most interest. 

I'm not sure how you go about braking a 50+ year old curse, but, it's time to let go Norm. We're in good hands now and our current crop would never stitch you up the way you were. Let us go and win the 10 in a row you deserved!
