Petition: Demand an end to the Melbourne Football Club playing at Etihad Stadium

What was the crowd figure to break even on gate takings?  17,000 or something like that?

Good luck not having to send a cheque to Etihad if we play home games there vs interstate teams.

I thought it was actually much higher than that.

The question has to be asked, when the AFL inevitably take over the stadium sometime in the next few years, and it ceases to be a venue that watches every dollar by hiring less gate/catering/ticketing staff, will things improve any without a private sector bottom line to protect? Will the AFL bring an end to the 'minimum number of scheduled games at the ground per year' ruling that forces each Vic club to play a home game there? Will they reduce the price of parking under the stadium? WIll the reduce the size of the Medallion Club and the like so more fans can actually go and afford to sit on level 2?

In the early days under the old moniker of Colonial Stadium we enjoyed the clear second best record behind Essendon  the almost invincible home tenant . As long as the roof is closed and  i'm therefore not squinting into the low late afternoon sun I don't have an issue with the place . The first ten rows or so of the top deck are cheap , and offer excellent viewing . A  front row seat on the  Level 2 wing matches the SCG as the best viewing spot in the AFL .  Our horror record there over the last decade has nothing to do with the venue and all to do with poor appointments and abysmal recruiting .

I have signed the petition and added the following comment:  We started out as the MCC Football Club and the MCG is our historic home. We shouldn't play any "home" games at Etihad, particularly against Victorian Clubs who are based there!

We play about 5 away games at the G.

Get over it.

I think Richmond got a smaller crowd at the "G" hosting a loss to Port (funny). I think we would have got about 35,000 at the "G" hosting St Kilda so I would be upset if the AFL themselves didn't regard the situation as a mistake. A mistake that was hard to see at the start of the season.

So, what we do hope to see is more opportunities to make money next year and the year after. Better opportunities than Richmond if they stay in the bottom four.

Also with these "event" matches everyone is carrying on about I'm more [censored] off with us losing the "pink" game (probably our greatest marketing success) as a fixed game against the dogs at the "G". Or is that because we had the girls game as a curtain raiser. I'm not sure. I probably should get my facts right before being [censored] off. Who do we play in the Pink game? Is there an exhibition girls game again this year? These are great opportunities for us.

Incidentally I think the home game against Richmond was a good crowd and I'm pretty sure we had bigger numbers than the Toiges, so if we can drag ourselves out off our ten year journey down the S bend maybe we will get a better fixture. Lets make sure we finish above Richmond, Carlton, Collingwood, St Kilda and Essendon and give Action Jackson some ammunition to go to the AFL.

Yes I am [censored] off at having to play a home game there against a club whose home ground that is....if that is your petition I would sign it.  It actually defies logic, and supports my premise that the AFL should fund the staging of all games, and distribute the takings now that few clubs actually have home grounds.   To nominate us playing Saints, NM or Foitscray, or EssUndone or Carlton there is as absurd as us playing away games v EssUndone at the G.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    POSTGAME: Rd 09 vs Carlton

The Demons were blown out of the water in the first quarter and clawed their way back into the contest but it was a case of too little too late as they lost another close one to Carlton losing by 1 point at the MCG.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 09 vs Carlton

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again headlining another blockbuster at the MCG to kick off the round of footy. The Dees take on the Blues and have the opportunity to win their third game on the trot to solidify a spot in the Top 4 in addition to handing the Blues their third consecutive defeat to bundle them out of the Top 8.
