We clearly are not respected and I don't think many people actually watched the game in Hobart. If you did you would surely say that if we bring that game again then we are a chance in almost every game we play.

I am not confident about this game at all. It seems that we come up against teams that really need a win and build themselves up massively a few times a year. We had one two weeks ago and have one this week and may have another next week.

We don't seem to that situation very well at all. If we play the way we did last week I think that would beat the best Collingwood could throw at us. If we are off by 5% then we will lose. If Collingwood lose to us we will get no credit and the story will be all about how bad Collingwood are and how they are in crisis, same goes for Richmond the week after. It will only be if we win the next three games that people may realise we are 3-2 and not the push overs we once were. Her is hoping.

Only a fool would consider this a foregone conclusion for the Pies. They are playing horribly.

I'm not getting my hopes up, but seeing the look of disappointment on Howe's face would go some way to making up for the Essendon debacle.

Collingwood will score the first goal. I just know it.

That really p1sses me off as well. When Essendon beat us it was all about a season defining win, and how amazing they played. Not how bad we played and let them win.

No idea how we'll go in this game, Melbourne are the most unpredictable team in the AFL.

Could win easily, get smashed or anything in between...

Yeah ikr! even Roos commented on this last year i think after the richmond win iirc. "Every time we win it seems to also be the worst game the opposition has ever played" (probably not exact quote but something like that)

Agree, but our problem is that our form against Norf is as relevant as our form against the Druggies.

Stating the obvious, there's still too much difference between our best and our worst. If we get everything nearly right, we can match anybody. But if we get one or two things wrong, we're poo.

Last year we got a few things wrong the first time we played them. Bucks got away with playing Oxley loose in defence and he was BOG, as well as Cloke popping goals from both boundary lines on the 50m arc, from 60m out and from a ball that bounced on its point back into his hands right in front. The second time we played them, we got pretty much everything right and nailed them. If we're on top of our game, we'll beat them.

We can again expect Bucks to try to nullify Gawn & Viney & probably Hogan. Goldie did us a favour by trying to beat Gawn fair & square, but this week there will be heaps of holding & pushing & double-teaming of Gawn at stoppages without much concern about where the ball is; their mids will expect this and be ready to pounce on a neutral ball, and Gawn will get no help whatsoever from umpires. Bucks doesn't like tagging, but we rely so heavily on Viney at stoppages that he's now a target, and can expect to wear someone like McCaffer who will be focussed only on pushing or holding Viney away from stoppages, again without any intervention from umpires except when Viney pushes back. 

Clearances are so important in this match.  Like I said before the Essendon game, I don't want to see us a few goals behind halfway through the third quarter scratching our heads wondering why we're getting smashed in clearances when we should be winning them. The Pies will be planning their whole game strategy on being able to nullify Gawn & Viney (for example, they'll plan for the ball landing at the ruck men's feet at just about every stoppage, and they'll be swarming on the ball & getting first hands & blocking & digging it out, while the taps to advantage that we're waiting for just aren't coming) and we need to anticipate before the game what we're going to do if they manage to do it. For example, if McCaffer's wearing Viney like lycra, Viney doesn't try to win the clearance but tries to block another Collingwood mid (say, Treloar) at stoppages, thus taking two opponents (Treloar & McCaffer) out; or move Viney to full forward, where against a mid-tagger his greater strength will be extremely dangerous and harder to counter.

Their media attention will help in that regard. Umpires have footy smarts (as hard as that can be to believe) and they know who should win contests, last week they expected Goldy to win more often than not so they paid alot against Gawn because that "must be why" gawn was winning. After reviewing that game and all the hype around him and Viney Gawn will be the one they expect to win. This is why the better players get holding because they look for it.

Side note: In the second qtr of the north game (i think about 8/9min in) there is audio of the umpires talking to each other and they say "watch for holding on hogan". Why? because melbourne had momentum and they expected to have hogan win the next contest and wanted to ensure he wasnt impeded, no there was no free paid but they were looking for it. They cant help it its just human nature. Look up the moonwalking bear experiment. As we get better we will get more and more of this to our advantage, but for now we will have to deal with pendles geting 2 or 3 frees on the weekend for next to nothing.

Jake barracks for the Pies, so it may be wishful thinking as much as anything else. 

If our inside mids and Gawn compete in the same fashion as they did against North then we win.  It's as simple as that.

I hope the football department show them the replay of the game and say this is the minimum standard. This what we expect every week for the rest of the year. Anything less shall be unacceptable.

I reckon Hunt will get named this week.

I expect to see a rumour floated in The Herald Sun tomorrow that Eddie Betts is heading to Collingwood. Unless Damian Barrett gets in first and states that it's a fact on The Footy Show tonight.

I have a feeling we will see a debutant this week in Jayden Hunt. 

It will good to see it after toiling through rehab and stringing some good football together

Yes we did, but we played very good footy, that is the point. Playing very good footy are not mutually exclusive, if you lose it just means the other team played a little better or got some luck their way. 

If we play that type of footy every week we will win quite a few games.

Report on Roos views of Sunday's game in today's Age online makes the same prediction about Hunt!

Last week there was a lot of "man we should have won that" and "that should be the standard of effort every week".

Didn't see or hear a lot of honerable losses comments. It was good to see.
