It occurred to me today that all in all we've done pretty well from our player trades. Vince, Garlett, Tyson have been major successes, as will probably be the case with Kennedy, Bugg and Frost. Then there's Pedersen who has been a very serviceable recruit.

We've lost Sylvia, Blease, Gysberts, Martin, Maric, Pettard, Scully, albeit most of them via the delist route, but apart from Martin and perhaps Pettard, none of them have set the park on fire or have delivered their dollar value as in Skinny Scully.

Then there's Frawley who scored brownies in a lopsided grand final but was seriously ordinary for much of last year and has yet to stamp himself as an asset for Hawthorn, there's Howe who is making Bucks cry, and Clark.

The Clark case is interesting because none of the Demon Hierarchy, especially Roos, were sad about losing him. It appears they knew they were washing their hands of the trouble that would have ensued by keeping him.

This administration knows exactly what it is doing and has let the players go that it wants to, whilst making an enormous fuss in the media and ensuring maximum compensation.

They were not reluctant to let any of Sylvia, Frawley, Howe or Clark go, despite what might have been said in the media.

I have to say, though, that most of the players you mention were pushed in the Neeld era.

You really have to narrow the field down to guys like Blease, McKenzie, Jamar etc that were moved on in the last couple of years in particular.

Cross is the only one I've disagreed with, but in a head v heart battle think they were probably right in hindsight.

Jamie Bennell is doing well at West Coast too. He was one i didn't want to get rid of but again Neelds decision to get rid of him and keep Daniel Nicholson was mind boggling.

I agree completely. In fact I was going to mention him but in the fog of my memory glands I'd wondered if the Benell I heard called on Sunday night's broadcast was  'our own' Jamie or a new branch of the Bennell clan. All power to him.

Also, and this came to me as I listened to the broadcast, wasn't there a hoo hah when Neeld took over about the way handled our indigenous players?

Toumpas is also one to watch.

He didn't make the PA round 1 best 22 and I for one was glad to see him go. Especially if Kennedy was his replacement.

He was still recovering from a knee reco as well when we delisted him.  I think the club allowed him to continue to train with us while he was in rehab, but it was clear the club didn't think he could make it back and become a solid contributor.  It's terrific to see him doing so at the Eagles now.

They were, but went to lengths to keep him at the club.

Trading has been better in recent years. I still think the 2012 Dawes deal didn't pan out (pick 20&45 for Dawes and pick 58) not to mention he got 500k per season and has struggled to get on the paddock. Maybe if fit this would have worked out for us.

Bernie vince has been a game changer!! Money well spent!

We used to all argue about whether our worst let down had been trading, drafting, player development or game plan.

These days we are looking above average on the first three, and making progress on the last.

We appear to have solid and improving footing off the field.

And Jack Watts is playing assertive, bold football.

The hoo hah was a manufactured drama centering around a guy who worked for the AFL, who seemed to be at the centre of every manufactured drama regarding indigenous players.

Will be interesting to see how he goes against a strong contested side, but kudos to JB for progressing his career at the Weagles.

Not sure you actually need the word "cry" in this sentence. Reads fine without it.
