This is a post from a St Kilda supporter on another forum re Kalani:

''Had a bit do to with them down on the coast and I'm 99% certain if there was a choice to be made, he would be off to the D's.

However, I would be surprised if either club made a play for him. He is not particularly good, and the continued selection in various elite programs does nothing to dispel the claims of nepotism for kids involved in northern academies who have fathers from southern clubs.

Talls can develop at different rates though, and there is definitely something there - but he is miles off it currently. Barely got a kick in local u19s this year.''

It's just one person's opinion, but it's good to hear a view from someone with no skin in the game.

Let's hope he keeps improving.

This is such a different view from scouts, afl academy’s, and our eyes watching the U17 game…. Fine, whatever, but a hell of a lot better than the FS that have been coming through the saints.

I think we will pick him up. Over 200cm now and JT said he was steadily improving and a terrific athlete. Good development prospect.

Can you post all of this information ?  Thanks.

Btw, don't sound so emotional.  It's not personal.

No probs. And the reaction is to a saints supporter not you 🤣

Rookie Me:

Kalani White (Suns Academy/Queensland)
Key Defender | 198cm | 05/05/2007

White has an interesting decision on his hands next year, being tied to Gold Coast's academy but also eligible to nominate under father-son rules for Melbourne. The son of former Dee and Docker, Jeff, Kalani is a developing talli capable of playing at either end of the ground.
His mobility is impressive and he seems to have found a home down back, where he was an Under 16 All-Australian. White also featured once for the Allies this year, while averaging eight disposals and four marks for the Suns Academy

Herald Sun: (Kevin Sheehan top 25).

Kalani White, son of former No.1 draft pick and Melbourne ruckman Jeff, looms as a top prospect for 2025.

White will be eligible both as a father-son for the Demons and as an Academy player for the Suns.

There's nothing there I haven't read.

You mentioned ''scouts'' and ''our eyes watching the under 17 game'', so I expected you'd have information we hadn't seen, instead you've provided generic information available to all.

Btw, who the poster supports is utterly irrelevant.

We all want White to be a top notch prospect.  I have zero idea whether he's anything more than promising.  Making the under 16 AA team in 2023 is at least grounds for optimism.

A 15 year old skinny 200cm stripling struggled against 18 and 19 year olds? Hardly a shock…

Honestly, I expect him to want to stay up north.  That's kind of obvious.  What 18 year old is going to choose to move across the country rather than do the same job for the same pay in his backyard where all of his friends and family live?  Assuming both clubs want him, he'd be insane to pick Melbourne.

Really

The best thing might be for him to spend his time away from all of that and go with the Club he has loved since he was at state school

.He has probably grown up  ( as a very committed Dees fan) looking forward to playing on the MCG in the hub of footy.

Its not easy  but I certainly don’t share your half glass full idea for him with as much as enthusiasm. Think crowds at the G and compare vs Suns also.

I think without being rude he might be better off in Melbourne away from all the family pressure doing what he has longed to do ever since being able to hold or kick a footy.

His birthdate is 5 May 2007, he will have played the majority of the season as a 17yo. Not sure where you're getting "15 year old" from WSWS?

tbh i thought he was an 09 birth, turning 17 in his draft year, not 18

right, he's two years older than i thought - time to put him out to pasture

AFAIK you have to turn 18 in your draft year to be eligible. January birthdates like Jagga Smith have a decent age advantage over November birthdates like Alix Tauru.

You're eligible to be drafted the year you turn 18.

This article on the AFL website discusses the changes in draft bidding on academy and father/son picks.

Change is coming: How Lions' bids would look in 2025

Worth considering the repercussions in the case of Kalani White.

Of particular interest is how Gold Coast could handle the possibility of drafting more than two first round picks in light of the points changes.

If GC make the 8 they are restricted to 2 nominations. They have 2 likely 1st round mid type players plus Kalani who at this stage may be a 3rd or late 2nd rounder???

Well I guess it’s a good thing we don’t have our first round pick next year, won’t have to worry about burning a high pick on the kid. The clubs rarely screw each other over in these instances. They know they will get karma and right quick.

Poor kid would be paying so much for clothes and his choice in cars is limited.

When did he say this? I heard someone say that he gave his height in feet and inches and someone miscalculated the conversion. He's actually hit 200cm.

Obviously it is up to Kalani, but it would be wonderful to see his Father Jeff hand him over his number #34 jumper on Draft night for the Melbourne Demons.

That would be a fantastic and special moment. Anyway, we shall see what happens in 12 month's time.
