Big Maximus Gawn

The reports have been exciting to read of late but one thats really starting to makes my ears [censored] is Big Gawny attacking the pre season with an aggressive mindset and work ethic. Could see this bloke really tear the competition apart with his height and marking ability and shoot himself into All Australian within the next couple of year.

Also if you want further proof go and watch the latest inside the camp video and they have recorded Paul Roos wrapping up a training session and he goes on by saying that he will make a big statement and he mentions his never one to make big statements, but throughout his journey he has never seen a ruckman train as hard as what Max did. He then awards Gawny with the 'Paul Roos man of the week' by handing him $100. Just a bit of loose change in old Roosy's wallet lol..

In all seriousness though that is a massive endorsement from Roosy to Gawn. But also shows the hard work and dedication he has put in to get to where he is at the moment. Full credit to big Gawn too.

Looking forward to a ripping season ahead for Maximus!

I love Big Maxy, dead set legend. He's going to have a massive year, and kick on from there.

I am disappointed though, that he hasn't been awarded a retrospective MVP award for 'convincing' a certain little turd to run off to GWS.

How about a "Gawn Yawn" award for the best balls-up that had spectacularly good consequences?

It'd be worth it just for the design of the trophy.

Let's make it happen! As for trophy design, that's tough. Care to throw up a suggestion?

He will give the B and F a shake this season, and maybe even the AA team.   Yes he is that good.

Yep, always had the talent just body let him down constantly.

Good on Roosy for making him work hard for his spot last year. Gawn has been on record that he didn't take his round 1 omission last year very good. Probably sulked a bit too much and was made to earn it. Now he is talked up as potentially one of the top 4 ruckman in the comp.

This is the kind of development that has Brendan Mcartney written all over it.

Greg Stafford has worked very hard with Max as well over the last year or two

The best thing that happened to him is after starting to get all the praise second half of 2015 Goldstein then ripped him a new one and showed what the top level requires. I feel that has stuck with him and has driven him to go to the next level in 2016.

You have it in one, I spoke to him about that, also he is relishing a full pre season

The year of Gawn!  I can't wait to watch him play this year.  He finally trusts his body again.

I remember watching him training up in Maroochydore this time last year. His voice and encouragement were great then too. Barring injury I think we will see Gawn go to another level.

He is only 23/24 this year. He could easily be the first AA ruck within the next 2-3 years.

I hope you are referring to football and not "yawning"

Well....... I guess that depends on the net result....

I was referring to football but the result from the 'Gawn Yawn' will be hard to beat!

On the club video of Roos giving Max $100 for being 'man of the week', the call from Max went out "All on black! Let's go to Vegas!". Roars of laughter. He's definitely a character and hugely liked by the group.

It can be no strange  coincidence that our fortunes on the field have changed quite a bit as has the ability and output of big Maxxy.

He's everywhere, not just tapping....marking....tackling....2nd...3rd efforts   . Hes just brilliant currently

We're playing better because we're clearing the ball better and we're doing that because our rucking much much better.

The giant Gawn  is hot on form.   I would be very surprise if this hasnt caught the attention of the umps !!

A player wearing #11  in red and blue  caught the attention of the umps some years back.

Could Max ?

On par with Jesse Hogan as our most important player imo, if he plays like the game against Geelong last year consistently, he could win a brownlow.

Hogan and Gawn were number 2 and 3 in the league for contested marks per game in 2015.

Would be just incredible if they went 1 and 2 this year. Would require just one extra contested mark every three games!

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
