hemingway 7,633 Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 I was all for Parish....he might become anything...who knows.. Oliver WILL become a very good player...AM happy enough. Agree BB wanted Parish but also see the desirability of a big tough hard at it body who will take no prisoners. So happy enough with Oliver.Parish may well be a star but clearly Taylor and company gave this a lot of thought knowing they are developing a group of players with skills but with tough uncompromising attitudes. We have worn the soft label for far to long. We need a group of competitive beasts who will change the culture of the club and have the respect of other clubs for the way they play. And the respect and pride of their own supporters. Play like Demons! 2 Quote
mdemon 266 Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 Harry Hindsight suggests that the stigma of drafting Toumpas ahead of Wines clearly justifies selecting Oliver ahead of Parish. Oliver may lack a little by way of polish and finesse by comparison with Parish but his vision, quick hands, overall strength and reliability overhead would seem to more than compensate. In any event, Roos likes big-bodied mids and this group in 2016 will define his legacy at this Club. 1 Quote
daisycutter 30,013 Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 it will be very interesting having a hindsight discussion in about 4 years time to see if we dodged a bullet or took a self-inflicted direct hit Quote
dee-luded 2,959 Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 Couldn't agree more but I am sure, depending on how things pan out, there will be quite a few here just waiting for an opportunity to say "told you so". Happy to have a tough hard rugged Melbourne,,, at the risk of missing a boomer harvey type??? (small runner) Lets get hard & tough, & have the opposition run for cover, before we start adding the Flowers & Alan Johnson's into our new hard earned ruggedness. the new foundations need to be set rock hard, before we start building, & then adding the finer finish features. Engorged Onion 10,226 Posted May 27, 2021 Posted May 27, 2021 (edited) A nice article on the career trajectory of Darcy Parish - personally, I am very pleased for him. https://www.statsinsider.com.au/blog/afl/darcy-parish-and-why-waiting-is-the-hardest-part There is a nod to the acknowledged urgency that we all have as supporters, and the little leniency we give players at times. NB: This is not posted to start another trash thread around revisionism of who got the better draftee.... but...is he gettable ? Edited May 27, 2021 by Engorged Onion 3 Quote

Parish has excelled since Shiel was injured. Had he not been injured and Parish given a chance to play in his best position, I would say he was definitely gettable. Now, I doubt they will let him go. He has quickly become a well rounded midfielder, kicking goals. Shiel is 28, still young but probably not there for their next tilt at a flag (may that be decades away) so Ess may trade him out while he has good currency and continue their rebuild from the draft. If Shiel goes back to his midfield position and Parish is relegated back to a flank he could be gettable. I'm guessing Parish will sign with Ess for 2 years at which time he will be a RFA. No revisionism needed...Parish was always going to be a good player, heading to being an A grader. It's just Oliver is already there and heading to elite. 6 Quote

Ted Lasso 19,586 Posted May 28, 2021 Posted May 28, 2021 Parish is a jet, if i was in charge of North Melbourne i'd be putting a big contract infront of him with Guaranteed midfield time. i think Geelong may be very keen to get him down there as a replacement for Selwood 3 Quote

Soooo much to learn: staging, sooking, dropping to his knees when tackled, kissing up to the umpires, and so on. Quote

Adam The God 30,721 Posted May 28, 2021 Posted May 28, 2021 Parish is very Treloar. Which is no disrespect to either player. Can win their own ball, but are better on the outside. Quote

Completely disagree Parish is excellent at both, he’s becoming once played in position a very good footballer. But we have Oliver who is elite at everything 1 Quote

Redleg 42,147 Posted May 28, 2021 Posted May 28, 2021 Parish is a good player, but comparing him to Clarry, seriously? Clarry is a one in a generation player. Dees fans should not underestimate him because he is ours, he is seriously brilliant. 2 Quote
