Hawthorn has delisted the 28yo

I would think hes worth a look at..as a DFA ?

I'd certainly look at it.

comes from Hawthorn.

imo would be in our 22

great experience

knows what it takes to win premierships

costs nothing

could still have 3-4 good years left.

He gets at least 25 touches nearly every time he isn't the sub but that's at Hawthorn. I'm not sure he brings much more to the table than someone younger from a state league. Sam Menegola would be worth a punt ahead of Simpkin, in my opinion.

Maybe we should wait and see who is the premiership player allegedly involved in the recent sexual assault allegations against 2 Hawthorn players.

How would we fit him on our list though?

If we are taking four live picks to the draft, then we still need to delist one player as it is..

People keep saying these Hawthorn players are only good because they're in a Hawthorn side that flatters them. Fcs, when do we acknowledge they get games in the best side of the modern era and are obviously better players than most of our spuds that have won 40 games in 8 years. Pay Terlich out and bring Simpkin in.

Gee Terlich...Jones ( M) --Simpkin ?

Terlich Jones Simpkin ?

We're about to draft ( most likely ) two young raw aspiring mids. Weve made the mistake in teh past of rushing these lads into sides with the hope that they might be the ONE !!

Some kids hit the ground running, some take a while to get up to speed, some just hit the ground. So if we're actually looking to develop our kids as opposed burn them too quickly then yo uneed to surround them and prop them up with players that do two things. One cater to an elementary need /role in the team but also provide a mnetor like role whcih the young can mould themsleves on

If it were simply a choice between fringe players who are borderline ( or are ) NQR and a player, a PREMIERSHIP player , from the current reigning 3peat regimne whos only crime is hes a bit older than some and found it hard to break into the leagues best midfiled but still managed a B & F whilst destroying many an opponent where he WAS playing then why wouldnt you take him if only for 2-3 years whilst the kids at the other end come on

Bit of a no brainer for me

Hes not the best that Hawthorn had but hes from the best the League has got. How many of them do we currently have ?

Is there anyone you guys don't want?

It's a bit like being back in the Neeld days being linked to everyone else's rejects.

28 and over is not an area we need more players in as far as our list goes. Roos, Goody, Mahoney, Viney & Taylor have all talked about their list strategy and it pretty clearly doesn't sound like guys with 1 or 2 years left are part of it.

See again you make an assumption then portray it as fact Simpkin could just as likely play 3-4 years of decent footy

Al anyone here is doing is window shopping. Seeing what is out there. There are bargains to be had for teams attempting to better their depth and bottom 1/4 of its list

Its need be nothing like the Neeld days. How often do premiership mids come on the market when you need mids ?

but hey lets by all means persevere with the still remaining list clogging NQRS

Yes.. Stuie Mahoney dances the good dance. He also said we wouldnt be trading pick 10

What he said was its UNLIKELY....now that does in and of itself NOT preclude anything..it say unlikely. Keep in mind that was said before some of these options presented themselves.

Also even if your prime objective is players of a certain age group , again that doesnt prevent you from taking some outside of it.

You really should place less weight on what anyone SAYS...its what they DO that counts.

Yes, and what did he do? Traded in players in that age bracket and got us another high draft pick.

How many over 28 year olds did we bring in out of curiosity?

Haha didn't miss the point at all. You said: "You really should place less weight on what anyone SAYS...its what they DO that counts."

I then listed for you what he did.

It makes total sense actually.

Here, I'll phrase it differently for you seeing you're struggling:

Please list for me all the over 28 year olds we brought in during the trade and free agent period.

I'll do the list for you, here it is:

Oh hey maybe we should sign up Steven Armstrong too then hey if that's the simple criteria?

I suggested he was not in our age bracket for what we're targeting, I provided you with written articles to back that up as well as the physical evidence of the trade/free agency period.

You've given your opinion.

And then you have a crack at me for stating my opinion as fact....

It seems we are happy with the list balance now. When Roos came on board we lacked players in the over 25 yo bracket. We've recruited some like Vince and Cross and others like Jones who have been kept on have moved into this bracket and leadership.

We retired Crossy this year, would like to have seen him stay on myself but anyway there is a push now to go to the draft for class and trade in some experience at around the 22-24yo mark.

If we were to pick up another player at 28+ there would need to be exceptional reasons such as another younger Cross or a Bernie Vince type. I don't see Simpkin as either of these.

He was a bit player in a premiership who was lucky to be in the right place (Whitecross injury) at the right time and in good form. Subbed on at 3/4 time in the GF maybe technically a premiership mid, more a specialist sub.

Played only one senior game this year and in my opinion and not what we are after.

thats fair enough. Given the lofty heights of the Hawthorn Midfield, and as reigning premiers Id be inclined to give that serious kudos Where would you put Simpkin if rating OUR Midfield..In it ...or not ?

Hey stuie, sorry if I ruffled your feathers the other day, I've been feeling niggly.

PS> My aim is to have fun here not to get into fights.

Edit} Can I say niggly? Is it derived from anything? Damn, sorry if I have offended, life can be fraught.

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
