I'll admit his highlights look great, but why has he not been able to produce like this before the 2nd half of this year?

i don't think that is a very fruitful argument dl5

it's more important what you are now and what (people think) you could become, not what you were in 2014 or before

As someone mentioned before, and numerous times before that, he was injured with OP (oestitis pubis) for the first half of the season and took time to get going.

Thanks

I am actually not joking here. I think we should take Oliver at 3

We have to if we want him. He won't make it to 7.

Parish, Curnow and Weidemann may make it to 7.

That's ok but the others in the top end of this draft have been on the radar for a few years now, Oliver has made a late run. Is this good or bad?

Bontempelli in his draft year took a huge leap u the ranks at a similar time out from the draft like Oliver has. Similarly, he hadn't been one who had announced himself a long way out like a Parish, Weitering, Schache, etc.

Fortunato Caruso...now that's a household name.

I seem to remember that the only major knock on him was that he wasn't able to accumulate enough possessions. He managed to fix that, too. He's probably my favourite non-Demon to watch...absolute freak.

As stupid as that sounded a week ago, today it is not. 2 of them at least could be there at 7, while I believe at least 1 will be gone by then. Francis, Oliver and Milera could fill 3 of the selections between 3-6.

4. MELBOURNE - THE BOLTER

Clayton Oliver (Murray Bushrangers)

H: 187cm W: 86kg

Inside midfielder

Ballsy call but chief recruiter Jason Taylor has gone gaga for this young bull. Powerful inside midfielder overlooked for Vic Country but rattled home to win the TAC Cup league medal. Stoppage star who kicks goals and ices the Dees’ glut of talented midfielders. Think Ollie Wines.

The twist: The Dees had Darcy Parish in front for a long time and want Sam Weideman to partner Jesse Hogan. Will they hold their nerve and hope he’s there at their next pick.

In one of the clips there's Parish trying to tackle Oliver and Parish couldn't even hang onto him.

That makes me think how is Parish going to go tackling men when he can't even tackle someone his own age?

Roos midfield prototype is big Bodied tackling machines, this guy fit that mould.

Haha I don't know why I suddenly want him so bad. He looks seriously good

I'm a lot more impressed in his video clips then Parish's, I'm jumping on the bandwagon with you!!

Fortunato Caruso...now that's a household name.

Massive EDFL player, really stiff to not be drafted based on his height more so than anything.

On Oliver, he just seems to fit the bill of competitive and that is what we have looked to address over the trade period and also the last couple of years.

His disposal is average, but kicking it out of clearances makes disposals look a lot poorer.

I really like Oliver and I really like Parish so I would be happy to take both. I'm growing on the idea that we will take both with Essendon passing on him with one of their earlier picks. But who knows.

Parish/Oliver/McKay. They are the three players I want.

That's what i want to know too

Brett Anderson tweeted we would not select Parish with 3.

Grain of salt

I don't buy the idea that a club that has hardly leaked anything in a long while now has suddenly spilled the first draft selection a few days out from the draft.

if we take Oliver clearly the recruiting team know what they're doing, personally i think parish is a much better player.

I'd have Oliver ahead of Parish on my limited video footage. Physicality will translate better, agility is better, likes beating opponents and hitting bodies and has the frame to do it.

But I wouldn't pick him at 3. 7 yes.

Then you don't get him, as Bombers will take him if we don't. They actually need him more than us.

Think Todd Viney when you look at the Oliver highlights. He would be our Ollie Wines, which would stop a lot of heartache for some.

He is a bull, but bigger than Todd and who like Todd, can break tackles from the middle and set up play. He can take a good mark and kick goals. Doesn't have the speed of Parish who is more in the Cotchin/Gaff mould.

It is starting to sound like if we take Oliver, Bombers take Parish. They need mids badly. That would mean two of Francis, Milera, Curnow and Weideman are left at 7.

GC have long liked Milera and also Francis.

I think the Bombers have more need of a Francis (a Bombers supporter) than say Weideman, who will take time, but we will see. Can't see GC taking Weideman. So Sun might have it right up to 7.

I reported a couple of weeks ago that the demons recruiting staff were up here in regional Victoria interviewing Oliver and maybe one or two other bushies player. At the time i thought to myself it was very interesting that we showed interest in him because he was just starting to come into top 10 calculations and i still thought no way would we select him at 7.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
