The pick 16 thing could see us get balic and weiderman, forward and a mid would be a great get

Are the two you mentioned read to play AFL next ala Brayshaw? If not I don't give a stuff about more kids. They are all too young and the draft is a lottery. The draft age needs to be lifted, another argument for another day. We need improvement next year, not in 3-4 so we better be looking at kids who are up to it next year

When people say "rubbish draft" they're usually referring to depth of the draft past pick 30-40, not the quality of top 20 picks.

How do you know it's a rubbish draft?

Widely believed that after the top 10 it's a massive drop off in talent this year.

which probably means it will be one of the most successful draft years ever, given the track record of draftee experts

There wasn't a lot of talk regarding us. Apart from the brief discussion about Toump, the only other things of note were Paul Connors said he expects Jack Watts to still be at Melbourne next year, but 'anything can happen'. And Scott Clayton from Gold Coast mentioned that he would be meeting with Howe.

Aaron Black's manager came out and as good as said that he'll be looking at his options. If only he could pinch hit in the ruck, i'd be really keen on him.

We've waited 50 years for a flag. I just want to see one, whenever that may be.

The most important thing is we get our drafting right. No point getting in a player just cos he's 'ready made'. Need to get whoever will end up being the best player.

We're not going to improve enough to be able to compete with the top sides with quick fixes.

The word "hero" gets thrown around a lot, but those who listen to Trade Radio so that we don't have to truly are heroes.

You got a problem with Damian Barrett and Terry Wallace waffling on for hours?!? Your loss CB!

Sounds like Aaron Black has asked to be traded (due to Waite and Higgins)

24yrs

192 cm

59 goals in 2013/2014

Not sure if he is tall enough to be 2nd ruck (although same height as Dawes)

Could be worth a look.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-10-05/roos-may-have-blackout-as-forward-looks-for-opportunities

He's nowhere near tall enough to 2nd ruck. He might just be as tall as Dawes but he plays smaller if that's possible.

His best footy is leading up at the ball as a 3rd tall but he's had a bad couple of years when he should've been cementing his place in the team. I'd be worried he lacks the skills and versatility for the way footy is progressing to players who can have more well rounded games.

Not the sort of player we need I'd think. Surplus to our needs with Frost, Dawes, Watts, Howe, Pedersen all between 190-196 and able to play the 2nd/3rd forward role.

At 192 cm, he's not big enough to relief ruck, and he averages less contested marks per game over his career than Watts. I wouldn't be very interested unless we lost two of the above players.

I'd make a play for Schoenmakers before Black. 25 years old, 195cm and able to play forward, back or floating along the wing. He's been on the fringes at the Hawks for a long time and never quite manage to cement a spot because they import the best talls from other sides to play ahead of him. He's now got a flag to his name, so that's no longer keeping him there. He's certainly a better player than Dawes and probably better for the mobile HHF than Watts.

Paul Conners name is quite prevalent in that summary. Is there something more to it? Or does he just have a large stable? Connors strikes me as a bit of used car sales man or real estate agent type.

He just has a large stable of clients, and it so happens that a big selection of those are either out of contract or looking for more opportunities.

They'll have other managers on and so forth over the coming days, like Ben Niall who is Howe's manager and so forth.

The important word is 'portioned'.

On the surface they need to carry the (reported) $1m salary till 2022

However, today's value of $1m pa for 7 years is $6.250m approx.

You would think, any payout would be a (lower) negotiated figure.

Lets say for example the negotiated payout is 50% ie $3.125m.

If that is (ap)'portioned' over the 7 years it is approx $450k pa.

With the new TV rights that would be a lesser burden in their sal cap.

Then again they may argue extenuating circumstances with the AFL and have that reduced further.

Haven't Hawthorn dodged a bullet!

The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
