The numbers indicate one of three things to my mind:

1 - He's not over his issues yet

2 - He hasn't kept himself in shape while not playing

3 - He's faking it to lower his value and get to the Pies.

Quite frankly any of the above could well be the case, and none of them make him more attractive as a draftee. However, all but #3 we could deal with.

I know who his Grandfather is, but I swear I saw somewhere that Sam was a Richmond supporter...

I could also be completely off my nut as well.

He has fully recovered from his injury. If it still is restricting him then it's gonna be like that his entire career

Recovered from injury maybe, but returned to full fitness? It's not like the kid has just finished putting in a full preseason.

Interesting how highly Weideman is rated ...seems to all be based on past glories. Other players have more relevant runs on the board in recent times which I would have thought carried more weight.

I wouldnt put this guy top 10 let alone waste pick 3 on him

each to own I suppose

This.

He had an OPERATION in May. An ankle op.

Imagine how much time he'd have spent off it...

Why do posters look at these numbers and think it's the 'be-all-end-all'.

Fark. The bloke is a supreme talent. Clubs just want to know that his body will hold up under what I can only imagine would be a seriously stressful environment for the human body. Especially a body that has had some history with serious injury.

That's all we'll be looking at. And if we deem him a safe bet at pick 3, he'll have all the pre-seasons in the world to get his 'beep test' up to scratch for all you number lovers.

This is not a [censored] potential Olympic marathon runner's draft. It's the AFL draft. And this bloke is a Full Forward.

I know that some here think highly of beep tests...

But gee! I would want to know the base he has come off from injury, it is the off season, he's a 196cm KPF too.

You'd also want to consider his scans, medicals.

That's why recruiters track kids since they're 12.

He's been out all year injured. A good recruiter will back his judgement if he knows the talent is there.

Fair comment.

Makes picking him very early incredibly speculative..

Not if you thought 12 months ago he was a deadset top 3 talent - it's been reported that plenty did. Some thought he was ahead of Schache.

Theres a difference between understanding what a talent existed and what it might be. That's speculation.

A problem for talls is often their early dominance in kiddie ball doesnt always continue as the opposition and such are more his size as they progress into adult footy.

I have no doubt hes a talent Id be spending #3 on something a little more definite, same really for 7. But thats me.

Will be interesting to see how the club uses these early selections.

For a change our future doesnt DEPEND on them. It should help of course but no need to pin every hope on these kids. TGFT

The fact that he comes from Collingwood royalty yet didn't support them growing up tells me all I need to know about his character.

Don't get upset, but he loved Matthew Richardson growing up. Massive Richo fan. Rest easy though....there's only one Richo.

You say it would be a terrible pick at 3 yet in your prediction you think he could go the next live pick to Essendon at 4.

So he is a terrible pick at 3 yet a likely good enough to be picked at 4.

If he gets through the session today I'd take him at 3. When fit he looks a sensational prospect. Watch his highlights video, he moves a lot like Pavlich. 12 marks against big bodies in the AIS v Bullants game. He can play. I like Parish too but I think it's simplistic to say Weideman's a terrible pick at 3.

How many guns have slipped down the draft because of injuries? Judd, Selwood, Darling, I'm sure there are many more.

If we want another competitive dominant key forward he is it. Curnow is not.

I don't want to regret this draft, I don't want this to be a Fiora pick over a Pavlich pick.

Anyone heard how he tested today and what he was tested in?

He wasn't training at Tullamarine, so I guess he probably tested negative. :-)

Back to topic, I doubt if the new MFC will leak anything about his physical - we will know when we hear a name called out at our pick, and not before.

With his name, and I don't mean Sam, would he ever be satisfied or allowed to play with ease at a club other than Collingwood? It just doesn't seem right.

My 10 year old grandson is in a similar position, regarding name. His other grandfather played in five winning grand finals for Melbourne. This little bloke gets around with grandfather's number on his Guernsey. I'd hate to think he might play at a club other than Melbourne, should he make the grade

Well, Corowa, I think it is widely known that he barracked for Ninthmond, though if he is ok and if we pick him and if he p reforms I will not hold that against him...much.

So you agree its nature is speculative..

Id put it that taking two mids wouldnt be. And recruiters are paid to recruit...not gamble

I think you're memory is letting you down, Song. This time last year, we thought we were going to be getting McCartin & Brayshaw. Petracca was the consensus number 1 right up until the eve of the draft.

I do agree that all of the possible permutations are hard to keep track of, and I'm just looking forward to it all being over and knowing who we've got.

don't throw me in the boat with the rest of these schmucks on here, thanks.
