I know Redleg loves my threads about players who have either been de-listed or are seeking trades, so I thought I'd start another one.

Cameron Giles, 195cm, 95kg 20 year old defender was delisted by Carlton today, and I have no idea why!

Poor kid has had a Jayden Hunt like run with injury since being taken at Pick 39 in the 2013 draft. I was hoping we'd take him at 40 (Kennedy-Harris) but Carlton swooped early.

Played 7 games at VFL level before injury set in (the dreaded navicular injury) which kept him out for 16 months. Got back for two games in the development league at the end of the season, but has received the chop anyway.

A very good contested mark with great pace for a big man, I wouldn't be against the club taking a punt on this kid considering we've moved Fitz on and given both Dunn and Garland are getting into the later part of their careers.

Below are some of his SANFL & U18 highlights from 2013 alonf with Knightmares pre-draft run down.

Cameron Giles (SA KPD)

Height: 195cm, Weight: 93kg, DOB: 5/05/1995

Recruited from: Woodville-West Torrens

Style: Scott Thompson (NM)

Player comparison:

Range: 30-rookie

Profile: After Darcy Gardiner, Giles is probably that next best key defender. Through the u18 champs he played mostly as more of a shutdown defender which I dont feel is as much his game but as more a rebounding defender he can be a factor with his points of difference at his size being his vision and footskills. Hes also got some nice evasiveness for a tall with his agile sidestep and ability to create more time and space for himself. Giles makes the right decisions more often than not seeing the right target but then he executes his kicks finding the right target and can hit them up over a variety of distances. Hes an excellent intercept mark with his ability to read it in the air excellent. Giles has a tendency to play relatively unaccountable brand of footy allowing him to be a real factor on the rebound and make best use of his ability by foot hes just not a particularly high level stopper at this point.

Seems like a premature delisting from the Blues, it was just his 2nd season and we all know big blokes can take time to get going.

True, but if Carlton are delisiting you after 2 seasons then it doesn't exactly auger well for the future.

Totally different cases mate, but I get what you're saying.

But as our lord and savior just said above me - we don't need Prendergasts failed picks turning up on our doorstep from other clubs!

Carlton are known for being impatient and moving their young players on early. Josh Kennedy, Sam Jacobs.

Poor kid Giles hasn't even been able to have a run at things.

Poor comparisons really. Josh Kennedy was moved on to secure Chris Judd, something basically every club would have done at the time, and they moved on Jacobs as they had a dearth of ruckmen at the time. Giles wasn't exactly being held back by 'quality' defenders over the last few seasons.

True. Was held back with injuries instead.

7 Senior VFL games in his first year before he picked up his injury. Only got back from tne jinjury late this season for two games in the D League and was chopped after that.

Could well be the injury has killed his break away pace. If so, i too would loose my interest.

The club will have checked out everyone this season though. Roos likes to take a punt, so to speak, and has done on guys like Michie, Newton and Riley. While they may not make it, and Riley has already been cut, we know that Roos wants to add to our depth in any way he can. No doubt that many players who have been cut, particularly for lack of opportunities, will be looked at.

If Giles has been struggling with injuries for 2 years then I don't think the club will take a look at him though, no matter how he was rated as a junior. We can't take punts on guys like him. We need players who are ready to go from day one.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
