2015 Player Review - # 4 Jack Watts

Featured Replies

Have heard from a reliable source that Jack was spotted doing a fitness test with Essendon today. Disappointing if true...

This makes me sad as I don't want him to leave and definitely not to go to Essendon.

I only take some solace in the fact that you have only posted half a dozen times JJJ and so not giving much weight to mutterings yet

I was told by a mate who was at the blues that he's done it with a couple clubs this off season.

Blues not being one but there are clubs interested.

No reason to doubt his word but it is only second hand info.

Read JJT post below...

Not sure how he has done it with a couple of clubs, it is his offseason so i doubt he will be running around when he is more likely to be on footy trip.

Plus, if this was true it would have been reported as the media love a JW story.

Mahoney & Connors have essentially said, about a week ago, he will only leave for a very good offer (a-la the JT trade with Richmond last year).

Jack is in Bali until Thursday.

JJT is 100% on the mark, isnt in the country, carry on.

I'd be inclined to keep Watts. I still think his best football is ahead of him. Watts will get better with age, his consistency is also underrated by many.

I still want to believe. I really do.

Just can't muster the energy.

Get better with age?Are you serious he will be old and grey before he decides to take the game on

What a poor reflection on your ability to assess players Geessus Inclined are we?

Sylvia argument.

Im inclined to get a reasonable trade, if anyone is interested.

Okay...its the silly season. Im going to go with an idea that may or may not appear totally hilarious to some...intriguing to others possibly.

We need a KPP forward as a foil for Hogan. Someone who knows where to be on the ground etc. As a forward someone who can kick a goal or two

Now I concede as a pack mark hes not too wonderful...as a contested mark ( not quite as brutal as a pack variety ) he is so-so..otherwise a very good pair of mitts unlike some we can mention.

Now I only suggest this as Id rather pick two mids this draft...and maybe go shopping for someone if need be through the year.

in the interim...why not play Jack as Hogans wing man ?

just an idea

Wow... You come up with that all by yourself? I don't think anyone else has suggested that yet....

It's been tried and he's been found wanting, because he can't compete in the air or the ground.

There's not a lot of uncontested footy in the forward line. Unfortunately, Watts' only strength is getting on the end of an uncontested ball.

Worked pretty well in round 1 when there was no Dawes or Pedo...

The point Stuie...is not that its untried... but could be retried.

Maybe with the idea of making the role his ( if only for this season if not working so well ) he'll become more confident about it.

He just has to put his act together. ..who knows.

I expect more scoring from a better midfield. The role Jack can play is as suggested the foil.

Dont claim its MY idea...just an idea.

Classic Demonland response to attempted conversation starter (aka: what an a#%@hole).

These days it's more of a classic Demonland response to call something a "classic Demonland response".... Kudos

Exactly how I see 2016 panning out for JW.

Why unfortunately?

He's very damaging with the ball in his hands AND he runs to space and creates a mismatch.

Nothing wrong with that.

Great footy brain

And we're chasing someone like that in this years draft....

He is one season away from possibly being extinct from the game. One of the biggest wastes of talent in recent history. Only has himself to blame (For someone who was meant to have suffered from underdevelopment he remains one of our smartest and most skilled players).

In a contested game he's afraid of the contest. Last chance or its game over for him.

He's only ben coached properly for 2 years, BA.

looked at a couple of our wins from the year, both the geelong and collingwood games and Jack played pretty well. I think the problem we all have is that Jack has been seen as having great potential and expectations on him are far greater than on most other players therefore his performance is judged a lot harsher than others. I would rather have jack in the team that a lot of others as he usually does well enough to earn his keep, it may not be up to the standard that people are wishing but occasionally he can also turn it on.

but he's the best basketballer playing afl

I think the concern is Jumbo the one area that is missing from his game may not be coachable.

It's all that is stopping him from ripping games apart.

Make your peace, BA - let the coaches make the call and work on him.

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
