So did Jamar. And Sean Charles. And Brent Heaver!

Sean Charles was a fantastic talent, one of the most dynamic players at the club I've seen alongside Jakovich, Farmer, and Jurrah.

I also don't think Walker is that bad an option, I think people are being a little unrealistic in terms of what's needed or available. It isn't about how many goals they kick themselves, it's about how many they create for the team. We need a lead up forward with strong hands that is marking the ball forward of the fifty and allowing Hogan to play deeper rather than hunting kicks on the wing. Realistically these players are rarely on the market. You aren't going to prise Tom Lynch away from GC and we couldn't get his namesake from Adelaide. The market is thin, Walker or Tomlinson appear to be the two most likely, or we make do with what we have - against GWS, Dunn played the role on the absence of Dawes/Pedersen, but he's too small (192) to play as an effective chop out ruck (while Walker is a little taller at 196)

I think if we had the opportunity we should grab it with both hands.

Has been stifled at Geelong, and kicked bags when given his few opportunities.

In any case, he should be looking for a new home as he's undervalued in Geelong.

Scott specifically doesn't rate him, but all the other coaches do.

But then again, Scott rates Smedts when most there would give him the flick.

Dunno about Walker.

Surely, if we want that sort of player, we would be better off trying someone like Weideman in the draft?

Long term yes. Short term? We have King who we hope will develop into that role, but who can do it now?

I'd rather see us retain Pedersen on a 2-year deal if it comes to it. However, Walker might be useful depth in case Dawes spuds it up again or if (heaven forbid) Jesse picks up an injury!

Not everyone we target this off season needs to be a best 22 player. Building depth in our squad is just as important.

A low-priced 2 year deal for Walker.

A mostly irrelevant token draft pick for Geelong.

Walker gets two years to deal with his deficiencies without any expectations.

If progress is made then he becomes a regular and gets a much better renewal, effectively replacing Pederson.

If no, well, no biggie, we gave up one list slot in a shallow draft in a year when we were delisting 8(ish) players.

He's struggled playing with Hawkins, he will struggle playing with Hogan.

Very possibly.

Good point, he's never had a good natural football brain.

Can find the footy now, but maybe still lacks the rest.

I think the difference imo is that Hogan is far more mobile, I see him developing into a forward who just runs all day like roo or pavlich, allowing walker to stay close to goal where I think he has some talent.

I would be very surprised Josh would want to leave Geelong

His grandfather Peter was a star in the 60,s and the number 34 he wore is also what Josh wears which indicates there's a certain bond with the Cats

Looks like we are certainly after a Tall Forward after we tried Tom Lynch at the Crows

Certainly has youth on his side

Hard to say NO as when i have seen him play he sure has potential

I think lack of faith in his ability combined with a lack of opportunity and a lack of a contract paying the riches offered elsewhere may drive him to look at his options.

It's not rocket science, and it did the trick with JPK.

we need a forward pocket/2nd ruck....

if its not Lachie Henderson, Josh Walker, Matthew Kreuzer, then what about Levi Casboult ?

IF we trade for a pick pick around 11 - 15, with a Howe, Watts or whatever, or as an upgrade for our 2nd Pick, to grab a Weidemen sort, to develop over a couple of years, then we could take a jWalker or a lCasboult as a temp measure.

Can't see that unless they can move on Dawes. We still have King developing.

its no good hoping the eggs in the basket, will remain viable, they may go rotten. (king) ...... BUT what IF,,,,,,, Hogan left in 2018 or was injured ??? we need a Weideman, this year.

the churn must continue... some players will make it but only to 50ish games, king may make it,,,, but Weideman may end up over taking him, at another club, & then go on to 250+ games ???

we cannot only look to the immediate short term,,, sacrificing our 2019+ years.

If we cannot get a really good AFL player to be Hogans fiddler now, then we must get the best mature we can cheaply, & draft some kids in this strong KPP draft. We should take F/A's this year, & hopefully Curnow from the draft, & be able to have a crack at Weideman from the draft as well.

so I am into Kruezer F/A, Danger of course F/A, & others,,,, to fill the major gaps... but not at the expence of our early picks this year. We can trade some of next years picks this year, if need be to help with transfers for a Danger...

# edit : and I'm not against trading a Dunn this season, if that's what it takes to get the Danger deal done, or a Prestia tradein.

Josh Walker would be our worst recruit, and that is even considering the garbage Neeldy brought in.

If he wears an MFC jumper, we really haven't progressed.

Thankfully, Roos doesn't make mistakes with second-hand players, so I know Walker won't be at Melbourne.

Hope for your sake the rumors of us looking at him aren't true then.

Lumumba.

I know you like him, but he added nothing.

Love these threads

There is always the "he's a spud" crowd that offer little else.

Walker at 22 has shown that he has some senior AFL qualities, given that he is a young KPF those qualities should grow.

I like him , I think he will become more than a handy key forward wherever he finishes up.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
