you know, as Irony has it, there is another thread in the Melbourne Demons board, about 1 Gary Baker... I'm just realising, he is exactly what I've been trying to paint a description of as a model forward pocket/follower....

mean 'n' nasty, great mark, great teammate, mobile, opposition don't want to be near him, you just want him on your side.

Tom McDonald,,, as long as he can take pack marks around the ground like the young Jeff White once did, & also hurt players in the packs up forward. he has the engine to follow, is he big enough ???

but I would use him forward as CHF leading up anyway, aside from a big Lunk in the pocket.

I'm inclined to agree with this but if it were to happen Tom McDonald would have to play forward. In these circumstances we should be trying to get Jake Carlisle to playCHB for a lengthy period

I would have T Mac at CHF or f/pocket, & blood Frost in CHB. as long as Dunn is still on list.

... if Dunn was traded out, as a part of a deal for an A grade player, then I'd keep TMac down back & play Frost in the f/pocket.

I hope we get Kreuzer on a 3 Yr deal as our 2nd ruck forward pocket specialist, that would then allow us to trade others out for further gains, & TMac could play leadup CHF, & Frosty down back, to spend plenty of time settling in.

but this ONE thing keeps haunting me, _ _ _ _ we MUST draft in another tall key forward this National Draft !!!! ... IF Hogan were to go down, or was to leave in a couple,,,, we must Draft a power marking specialist Key Forward now,,, to develop over the next 2 seasons. I hope Weideman.

.# edit : this is why I hope we get a trade from GWS or GCSuns for Howe or Watts; something in the order of the GWS's original P-8, or GCSuns original P-19... I think we need something in the order of P-8ish - to P-15 for Weideman?

Griffiths showed promise early in his career but has stagnated and been overtaken by Vickery. He's struggled with a lack of consistent senior games but may be worth a look especially if Richmond are interested in Watts as has been rumoured here and elsewhere.

I will cop flak for this and that's fine but before people comment if you didn't watch his game rd23 against the Tigers have a look.

Majak Daw has come a long way since being picked up by North. He has a natural leap that rivals Nik Nat, his tap work has improved, can take a contested grab. His kicking has also improved, whilst not brilliant(how many ruckman are elite kicks)he's not on the list for that. Round 23 he kicked 2 goals, 1 after taking a towering mark over two Richmond players before sprinting away taking a bounce than kicking into an unmanned goal square. He also had 25 hit outs(Maric 32 and Vickers 10) and laid 8 tackles. He occasionally looked lost up forward but that may be due to lack of cohesion.

I'm not suggesting sell the farm for him but his opportunities are limited at North. Considering we lack talls and many on here seem content keeping people who have shown no improvement. At 24 he could be a short term fix. If you visit the contracts thread Jones/Vince/Dunn aside all of our talent is 23 or younger. We need to recruit someone but he will need a couple of years to develop.

He couldn't be any worse than Dawes who is getting gifted games through lack of options and would come at half the price.

It'd be great if we could land a second ruck who plays forward, but ultimately we need Gawn to improve his tank and run out games by himself. I'd much prefer to play another midfielder, particularly with the sub rule going and the bench cap being tightened.

I think we have far more pressing needs in the midfield and in a traditional KPF. I'd prefer us to focus on the midfield though.

IF we could be absolutely certain that Carlsle wouldn't be doing something else "for a lengthy period" such as serving a WADA suspension, then yes, it would at least be worthy of some consideration.

But we can't so for me it has to be a NO.

Yes our midfield needs attention and between Howe/Watts/1&2 round picks we can hopefully address that. If we could land him cheaply(3rd round pick) I would play him ahead of Dawes as a forward purely on his ability to compete and take a contested mark as well as a pack mark. Nah he can be worse than Dawes. He was dreadful when forward earlier in the year. He's a first ruckman only. I'd prefer him than Spencer as a backup for sure, but I presume North will want to keep him as a backup to Goldstein?

There is also the sub judice matter that will have to come into consideration not only in any trade, but it is rumored even in Norf's decision to retain or delist him.

With the termination of the no DH policy at the Swans, are there genuine signs of a mass movement towards jumping the ship?

Tippett, if his head is in the right place, would be a huge bonus for anyone, especially us.
