Special mention to Harmes and Cross. Salem deserves more than one, but the five above him were just awesome.

Surprised Tom McDonald isn't featuring more in people's votes. Was very close to best on ground for me.

Haven't seem the game yet but judging from the spread of votes it seems there were a lot of good contributors.

Good effort when you take into account who was missing from our side.

Good effort from our backline to keep Cameron, McCarthy and Tomlinson out of the game.

From the radio commentary it seems Vince, Viney and Jones were dominant on the back of Maxxys ruck work.

Problem with Tom is that for every good thing he does there's a ridiculous turnover or mistake. With that said some of his spoils were brilliant. The midfield was the big winner today, we dominated the inside 50s for a change.

Inclined to agree with Salem here or at least top two. Showed what can be achieved off half back.

I'm having a hellishly hard time of it. We have four forwards who kicked multiple goals, the Big Three in the middle all deserve votes, Gawn was massive with 55 hitouts, TMac was dominant in defence but turned it over, Grimes was solid, Cross probably should get a mention, Mitch White was really solid for his 3/4, Stretch was composed and creative, Brayshaw was Brayshaw... It's really hard to pick out six to give votes to.

He is the perfect balance of silk and sledgehammer. Love him. Not having him and Kent for most of the year has had a big impact.

Also Mitchie was good, while Dunn did his job and even Howe looked interested (actually he was good to)

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
