Cant see how anyone would not agree with this.

H is ex pies, and therefore he would get bood all game.

Duh.......

Seems some need it pointed out unfortunately. Goes hand in hand with the 'we don't boo all the other Indigenous players so there is no problem' argument that gets bandied about.

Sad indictment on our society really.

Before this thread gets locked, can I just say, I didn't care less if Goodes got booed or not (I think enough is enough now though) but I really like all these tribal dance/war cry celebrations and reckon we should see more of them anyway.

Certainly better than Mark Williams' duck-hunter dance

Perhaps our newly educated Stuie could assist in the choreography?

Enjoyed it, and I am sure it wasn't as offensive as imaginary spears being thrown...

And how lovely that some can try for a laugh by saying he was 'doin an aeroplane.'

Hope to see more of them, but no imaginary boomerangs, crayfish traps, or nunchucks please - they give my pasty white body the vapours...

Dawes is ex-Pie too? I'm not saying it's completely racist but I think there could be an underlying element to it.

I heard some boos for Dawes.

To be fair, Lumumba is a more recent defection and did leave their b&f with that "last laugh" speech.

What do you mean by 'of course'?

And why can't an American notice the endemic nature of racism in Australia?

Of course , because Waleed Aly is the expert on Religion and racial persecution in Australia, having suffered so much under our racist regimes.

and the American is also a self appointed expert on our society ,having lived here ten years, coming from a place with such a perfect record in this dept.

I don't think the booing of H is entirely unrelated to the Goodes situation. People have a particular distaste for Lamumba which has quitened down this season as he has. The two share a similarity - and no, it's not the colour of their skin. It's their willingness to confront discimination and talk about it publicly which makes people uncomfortable and angry. People aren't booing the race, but them talking talking about race. Which is about race.

I'd agree that H confronts the issue of discrimination head on, which makes the racist element in society uncomfortable. But the booing of him yesterday was purely because he is a former player that left them in no uncertain fashion. They don't boo Dawes because that was years ago. If the booing had occurred towards H in any other match, I would agree it would be motivated by something else.

And Watts. Not sure why but they did.

They've always done this. Ever since his debut.

Trolls have feelings too.

Not easy living under a bridge you know.

Its the bit about avoiding sunlight that is the real problem, I hear ... :)

Wasn't aware that a criminologist, say, needed to have been convicted of some crime beforehand.

By any measure this thread is just so far from where it started that there's little point in leaving it open for gratuitous irrelevances like the above (or the constant re-re-rehearsals of opinions on what booing means).

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
