Hi all my first time posting,I'm a mad keen demon fan,some might say obsessed,I'm also old enough to remember the glory years,thus my devotion to the Dee's.I cried in 1954 and again in 1958,I've since forgiven the doggies but will never forgive Collingwood.

My dad put jumpers on my brother and I, havnt won a flag but had plenty of good times 87 was awesome and the night GF, 88 the same 94 I thought we had it , 2000 was just am awesome run it's just been the last decade that suxs , I'm not sure if we can get back there was less sides in 2000, you just have to pay your $ and hope.

You're a lucky man for having seen the glory years and for only recently coming onto Demonland

1. How did you start following the Demons?
I initially was Geelong as a little tacker (Jacko played there at the time and to a 4 year old kid, his schtick was all very cool). Upon moving to Geelong with my family, the old man talked me into barracking for Collingwood like the rest of the family. Unfortunately for him, the Dees had the wood on Collingwood at the time and he was foolish enough to take me to finals matches vs. Collingwood. Upon getting beaten by the Dees yet again, I decided enough was enough and started barracking for Melbourne.
26 years later, 2 to 3 premierships missed and millions of brain cells wasted via Melbourne inspired alcohol abuse and I'm still here!

2. Who was your very first favourite player and why?
Steve O'Dwyer. He stood out with his red hair, lanky physique and his playing number (1). We could use another like him these days to iron out p****s like Hodgey and Dean Wallis. Nick Maxwell would have left Jack Watts well alone if he knew that Strawbs or Balls Grinter were in his vicinity.

3. Best moment as a fan?
Rolling Carlton first week of the finals in 2000. I walked on air that entire week as I knew that we were taking on the Hawks (who we had already pantsed that year by 10 goals) or a worn out and exhausted Norf (who had copped a 126 point mauling by Essendon) in the prelim. I knew we were on our way to the Grand Final the moment the siren sounded. Plus the way we beat those smug Carlton arzeholes was just icing on the cake.

4. Worst moment as a fan?
Strangely enough, I won't nominate the usual suspects (148, 186, Grand Final losses). The worst moment for me as a fan (as I felt I was close to packing it in) was when the Suns flogged us at the G in 2013. This may be more suitable to the confessions thread but I threw my scarf in the bin. I was that filthy!
The reason this was so bad was mostly because I felt hopeless. Performance was shocking. Atmosphere (13k attendance) was non existent. Plus the supporters around me seemed to think that we were getting robbed and it wasn't a case that the players were demoralized and/or didn't give a toss. After I heard Neeld say 'we were outmuscled by the Gold Coast midfield' (who were mostly skinny kids) and when he tried to cite the 'tackles attempted' stat as a positive, I nearly tossed it in! Apparently, the coterie were as filthy as I was and let Russel Howcroft know in no uncertain terms! (Baghdad Bob posted about that little incident I believe).

5. Anything else you would like to share?

I now use the above story as a reference point as to why I continue to follow the Dees. When we hold the cup up one day (touch wood), I will remember that bloody miserable day and remind myself that ploughing through all that shite was worth it.

3. Qualifying final Vs Carlton in 2000, come back in last quarter, Yze kicks ball of ground to put us in front, ball sails up and hits me on the chest, crowd roars... euphoria!

4. Waverley Park Preliminary.... still hurts. Hate the hawks so much.

1. How did you start following the Demons?
I moved down to Melbourne from Northern NSW in 2009, vaguely having followed the Swans growing up (but not really, cos i didn't understand the game, more into rugby league at the time). Figured that I should follow a Victorian team (as I see it as a predominantly Victorian game).. Very soon it was out of Essendon, Carlton & Melbourne. Went and saw the Bombers [censored] the Blues one cold night in '09 and felt quite indifferent, hating the arrogant Bomber supporters and Hird.. I then watched a game with the Dees one Friday night and enjoyed their spirit. I also like the history, jumper and that they play at one of the greatest sporting grounds in the world). My passion has multiplied through the past 6 years of pain, soul-searching and occasional glimpses of bright light.

2. Who was your very first favourite player and why?
Once I had started supporting the Dees I would say it was Liam Jurrah. Excitement, jump, attack.. Watching him play definitely won me over. Sad how things turned out.

3. Best moment as a fan?
As a fairly recent fan, the 2015 season had a few games that I really loved (after the past few lean years).. I attended the Dees v Dogs in April? with my Bulldog-supporting girlfriend and we won, Garlett kicked a goal from the boundary, Hogan came out with THAT comment to Bob Murphy and I had a kick on the ground after.. I also had tears of joy during the match against Richmond, when Jesse played all over Vance and Brayshaw kicked his first goal. I was losing my [censored] in the last few quarters...so happy afterwards!

4. Worst moment as a fan?
Hmmm...the tenure of Mark Neeld. A train-wreck. I found myself watching every presser he did as some kind of penance. Those years really hurt. The big loss down at the Cattery the year before he arrived of course too..

5. Anything else you would like to share?

I no longer watch rugby league. I watch a few games of AFL a weekend and every Dees game on tv or the radio. My gf says i've been "footified". I'm on a Dees forum for goodness sake! My love for MFC runs deep now and I am happy that it's something that I have fostered myself, as opposed to having it handed down from family. Which probably shows I've got some problems - haha. Definitely looking forward to the youngsters running amok in the next ten years! Hogan, Brayshaw, Viney, Petracca, Salem, Kent, ND3, ND7, McDonald x 2, Stretch, Neal-Bullen......

1-Grew up in a Redleg family,my dad was involved with the club in some form but left to aid the Ashburton footy club, but our local butcher was a MCC member (a Mister Head) so he used to take me to see the Dees, and into the rooms where i looked way up to the Cordners, Roddas ect, they and others shook my hand so from a 5 or something part of my blood turned to blue and has never changed

5- Come on boys the years are getting away, but got a great feeling about 16/17 want to go to a g/f with my bro.

They started following me. Had to get a restraing order. But their persistence won me over

1. How did you start following the Demons? Uncle took my cousin (boy) to a game but I wanted to tag along (age 3) and I loved it and my cousin sat playing the game boy and I fell in love with it.

2. Who was your very first favourite player and why? Garry Lyon but unsure why

3. Best moment as a fan? Winning games. Brad miller and Steven Armstrong calling me after my under 12's grand final.

4. Worst moment as a fan? Losing the 2000 grand final. Only young but remember crying all the way home haha

5. Anything else you would like to share? Getting to know brad miller and Steven Armstrong personally after their first year at the club meant a lot to me as a child and even now at 22. After my 19 years of supporting Melbourne this is the first time being able to remember that I feel like we can actually build a premiership team in the next 4 years or so

1. My dad, growing up around Essendon he went against the trend of his cousins and uncles all bombers supporters, and barracked for the Dees. Don't think I ever had a choice...I can remember growing up and being one of only a few at school to barrack for Melbourne. My two year old son already says " go dees"

2. The ox (the dream began for me in Sept 94)

3.2000 Qualifying final against carl-tank and the prelim against norf was like a dream

4. 2000 gf- even though I didn't have my hopes up of beating Essen drug that day, just getting so close to the dream was still just a tease , almost cruel in a way ... any other grand finalist a couple of years either side of 2000 and we would have had a red hot chance to win the flag... timing of our rare gf appearances were not great.

Can't comment on 87 as I was too young but I remember dad being upset.

5. In hindsight i wish i had appreciated more our on field performances from 1998-2006 whilst we weren't geniuine flag contenders (perhaps 2000 aside) and there was the yo-yo years I had no idea what lay in wait for us thereafter ...I just long for the days again when you can rock up to the G and have a better than 50% chance of winning.

I'm sure it will be worth the wait!

For me, it all started with Adam Yze. Always wore 13 through my footy years.

I started supporting the dees when I boarded a plane from Dublin in 88. I was reading a magazine, something like 'so you're immigrating to Australia' and there was actually an article on the dees. Talking about Wight and jimmy being Irish. I figured we were moving to Melbourne so who else would you support? And the Irish connection was a bonus.

Highlights were the day farmer and yze debuted. We had some good seasons in the 90s

Lowest point was when port smashed us in round one a few years back

3. Finding a half eaten Mars bar up the back of the Gray Smith stand in 1961.

4. Having a bad acid trip at an MCG game in 1970, the ground was covered in snakes. I can't remember a lot of detail about the game.

5. Only 10 years ago we went outside at half time to smoke a big spliff. We were shocked to see cops on bikes (!) heading straight for us. They arrested some poor kid who was standing next to us! Couldn't believe our luck.
