THE LAST TIME WE HAD A BYE

Featured Replies

I'm a great believer in the old footy adage about taking things one week at a time. In a sense it's a pity that the momentum of our win at Geelong has been stalled by the bye but, on the other hand, it's probably good for us supporters to come down from the euphoria of seeing a four quarter effort from the side in which they resisted a number of fightbacks from a reasonably good AFL team on hostile territory.

It's been a good week and nothing that happens on the weekend can do much to change that.

Can it?

The last time we had a win, we celebrated too hard and came crashing down afterwards. Maybe a bye is a good thing for us because it will give us some time to decompress and get back to normal.

No crashing back to earth with a big loss THIS weekend! Yay!!

I think it is great that we happen to have the bye after that huge victory. It gives the coaches time to instill their achievement into them for another week, build some of that belief. If we had WC straight up and lost badly there is the danger of all that good feeling evaporating quickly. Don't worry, Roos will be using this to his advantage.

My gut is telling me the timing is perfect. A short break for the players to refresh (both physically and mentally), and time for the coaching staff to make sure that the players 'come back to earth' but take some measured confidence and belief out of a great win, are absolute positives imo. Travelling to Darwin as a group won't do any harm either. Add to this that we will be playing the Weagles on a ground and in conditions that won't be familiar to them, and I reckon that the contest will be a lot closer than the respective ladder positions might suggest. Maybe we might even win, and really start to turn some heads in the wider competition.

Don't forget the Hulk all rested up for 3 weeks and breathing fire after watching the boys down at the cattery!

Hogan gets hit by the regular bus. #fistedforever

Our record after the bye in the last few years hasnt been good.

Our record hasn't been good full stop

exactly

you could just as easy say 'our record on a saturday hasn't been good'... or 'our record in daylight hasn't been good' or 'our record when the earth orbits the sun hasn't been good'

Pig dog as sub for two weeks followed by a wkend without crash tackles cannot be good for WCE players torsos.

With a bit of luck we could actually go up one or two spots on the ladder without playing this week! If Bulldogs can do over the saints by enough for themto lose 2% or so we go up one. If the hawks can absolutely demolish essendrug by enough to lose 9% we go up one spot.

Go Bulldogs, go Hawks ?

Can't remember having this many injuries heading into a bye week. Timing is good for us.

Strangely, I consider the loss to Port in Alice after the bye the best we'd played all year.

I'm a huge pigdog fan.. you'd hate to gather a ball on the edge of the stoppage and realise he's the nearest player to you.. ouch

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
