Delistings/trades at end of the season

Recommended Posts

In terms of ruck forwards who might be available, not too many going around.

Off the top of my head, there’s Grimley at Hawthorn (probably between he and Ceglar for back up ruck duties at Hawthorn next year), Lycett at West Coast, Gorringe at GC, Hannath at Freo and Daw at North.

If we were going to invest in one through the draft, Flynn from NSW seems like the one that plays the dual role the best. Flynn’s potentially tied to GWS through the academy, but they probably won’t have the points to grab him. Late 2nd onwards probably his range.

Harry McKay’s a forward who could give a chop out in the ruck, but don’t think we’d go that way with our first rounder.

Wouldn't go anywhere near Lycett, he is playing shocking footy in the WAFL and is very slow

Also has off field issues which make him a no go was sent off for a few weeks for a "religous retreat" FMD as if anyone is buying that one

I think I know what is wrong with Yarran, he is dumb and lazy. Yes he can do the brilliant, but then he does not do the basics, like defend and man up.

I must admit to not having followed Garlett much last season when he was dumped to VFL.

Would the same description have been made of him by some?

Did they both suffer from similar issues of lack of motivation in a struggling poorly run club?

Was the situation similar to that of Yarran this year or is it a totally different situation? Would Roos et al be able to resurrect his career as they have with Garlett (and Dunn, Jetta)?

It'll be really interesting to see who we get this off season to play off half back. Will they go with just pace again (H) or will they go for elite skills (McKenzie)? Obviously, a mixture of both would be great. I've no doubt they've identified this area of the ground as severely lacking.

Our depth in midfield is still a bit of an issue no doubt we need a gun mid but another 2 decent mids will help a lot would no doubt look at Myers, Yarran and any other midfielder who will help bolster our depth In the engine room

With Matt Jones still getting games, we're still at least one, probably two off seasons away from having a truly competitive midfield. By that time N Jones and Vince will be close to 30 and we'll need to start thinking about their successors too.

Do you rate Watts?

What have your thoughts been about his lack of effort and intensity at times?

It's not a matter of Yarran not doing the basics. When he plays well and is high on confidence he does everything well including the basics.

Just like Watts and others at our club, this year he's let a few habits sneak in that don't look good at all.

Over his entire career, is that a reflection of who he is as a player or where he is mentally at a club that are going through a rough season?

I can't quite understand how you paint him one colour and say that's the way it is yet you're happy to defend others who have gone through similar form slumps, shown similarly bad habits etc.

I have a feeling it's because you barrack for Melbourne, and not Carlton...

No its because one is on our list and we don't have to go and spend big to get him.

Yes Watts has infuriated me at times with his lack of effort at the hard contest, but he is in the best 3 skilled players on our list and is still developing physically.

Would you swap Watts for Yarran, I wouldn't. I think Watts is a better player than Yarran.

Would I take Yarran cheaply like Garlett, yes I would.

Hey Chaser, you seem to have most knowledge around here,,,,,who is the big game player who steps up in the final or when the pressure is on ???

Cheers HL, don't know about most knowledge, lots of informed posters here.

From the Championships, two that stood out when games were tight were Balic and Greshem. In the last round in particular Balic was influential in Metro's comeback against SA. Greshem was consistent throughout, but has limitations that will likely prevent him from going too high, but cracks in and is very consistent in effort and performance. Ben Keays and Kieran Lovell impressed in these situations during the Champs too.

With TAC Cup finals coming up I look forward to seeing which players step up. It's a time when prospects can really push themselves up the order. Unfortunately Balic is gone for the season (Sandy look like missing out anyway).

Just noticed this in Robbo's 'likes, dislikes':

2. Patrick Dangerfield: Absolutely think he’s gone, although the Crows remain confident. Still, think it’s the Cats for him, although the Demons talk won’t go away. Anyhow, the guy gives his all and his performance against Richmond was one of his best.

Probably not worth starting a thread on this guy as I believe he has re-signed until 2017 last year and is not a midfielder, but Adam Kennedy from the Giants can't seem to get a game this year after being a solid best 22 player since their inception. Can't say that I have seen a great deal of him but to my eye he appeared to be a good small defender with skills and pace that could help free up Salem to the midfield. 23 years old and has played 59 games, only 5 this year. Worth keeping an eye on?

You think there's anything in that Chaser?

I'd only be guessing mate. Tbh I thought our race was run last year, so was surprised that there was any talk at all (of us and Danger).

If we have kept the thread from going slack, I'm even more impressed with how quietly it's been done to this point.

Chaser another question mate...making in our game these days is so important...Nat Fyfe is a perfect example and Dustin Martin and Dane Swan are so hard to beat in a 1 v 1 marking contest...who is the best marking midfielder in the top end of the draft? Hope you don't mind all these questions?

No problems at all HL

Harley Balic and Charlie Curnow are both very good overhead and can run through midfield.

Depending on whether how much you rate his midfield potential, Aaron Francis could be in this conversation too.

I don't know if Callum Ah Chee has the tank for midfield (projects as a specialist flanker/forward pocket at this stage), but he gets some pretty decent hang time and has strong hands overhead. Reminds me a lot of Micky O'Loughlin.

All of the highly rated northern academy kids are big bodied and strong overhead (throw in Dunkley here), but no point going into too much detail on those boys.

This thread is for Delisting / Trades not draft picks.

Bail, Jones (M) jamar Toumpas, Mckenzie Michie. Riley. Spencer.

These immediately come to mind.

Trengove will be given a go.

Petracca is a given.

Trade in wise I hope we can get someone??? Who that is is anyone's guess. ( Danger )

Treloar would be handy. Rumour is the pies. What can they offer him that we can't?

Tomlinson is an old fav. of mine and great mates with Dom.

We also need a CHF ( not a mobile 2nd string ruckman)

Hunt should get an up grade from rookie.

As much as it pains me, Toumpas has to be in the firing line for trade this year if we can get the currency in return. 3 years of development and still seems incapable of remaining calm under pressure (which is, ultimately, a huge factor in building premiership standard sides).

I'd so desperately love to be proven wrong though. Please work some miracles, McCartney.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
