Garlett with an absolute ripper of a goal

Jeff Garlett with a miracle goal. Needs to work on his set shots though.

Who is this team I'm watching?

How was that not holding the ball on Treloar?

The Giants always get let off the hook for lineball indiscretions. If you missed their match last week against the Saints, there was an entire final quarter filled with GWS bias umpiring.

What a snap from Garlett!

Misses the easy set shot and gets the hard on

Simple spelling mistake says so much!

Tyson should have just taken that one out and given us a throw in close to goal. Instead he gives the ball up and it pings back to the other end.

Dylan Sheil is a great player.

Can we poach him?

Kthxby.

so did I

That's indicative of our more aggressive mindset, looking to keep things faster and more intent on scoring, I think.

Need to get back on top, getting sloppy and they are having a few shots in a row.

Feeling like momentum is starting to swing a bit. They are getting their hands on the footy a bit more through the clearances.

Need to stick it out and not let them close the gap.

They've lost their backup ruck now.

Tomlinson subbed out injured.

Tmac, I love you but that was a horrible kick in.

getting lazy comfortable, dropping off the discipline

N Jones on 4 touches, needs to get into the game

Definitely sounds like they've had the momentum in the last 5 minutes. They're not scoring, which obviously helps, but it's not like the game's over so would be nice for us to even things up a bit.

Everyone loves to praise Shane Mumford to the heavens. Mark Jamar gets nowhere near enough credit, even though they're basically the same player.

Agree. One more goal and they have outscored us this quarter.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
