Is he? After 1 game? who finished 4th in our B&F? who got Gold Coast best forward Day last week?

I'll answer them one at a time;

1. Arguably our best key defender

2. No, not after one game. Has proven himself before last week

3. Irrelevant

4. Presuming Dunn, given you used it as part of your argument. What does this have to do with McDonald playing on Cameron? Totally different players, and Cameron is a far, far better player than Day

I've never been a huge fan of McDonald's. This has been because of his pretty poor decision making in the past, as well as his very poor disposal.

Having said that, he has always had a very good tank for a big bloke and been a good mark. If he can show improvements in his 2 downsides, he will fast rise up the key-defender ranks in the AFL.

His game against the Suns reminded me a lot of Rivers, he took a lot of releaving intercept marks, which was more than handy!

You said best defender should play on best forward.

Day is the Suns best forward with Lynch and Dixon being out.

Dunn played on their best forward.

I don't agree that McDonald is our best key defender when Dunn was close to AA selection last year and finished higher in the B&F.

McDonald will probably surpass him but not ATM.

The reason he was able to take so many intercept marks because he didn't he didn't have a reasonable player to worry about. To say that he will treat one of the best forwards in comp the same way as he would treat an ordinary player is just plain wrong.

I tell you what if he is able to do the things you say he can do on Cameron give him an All Australian jumper all ready because he will be BOG by a country mile.

You can ridicule me all you want I just have a feeling I will have to remind you of these comments like I had to remind Curry & Beer's about his comments on Brayshaw last week.

I just think you are over rating Cameron and disregarding the role defenders play. Nowadays even key position defenders are not the 4 touch players they once were (apart from Zac Dawson).

McDonald will play key position, if it's Cameron or McCarthy. He will not cop the defensive forward as it would be useless

Really?

Nevertheless, I'm with you that Dunn might be the better option to play on Cameron as he's likely to play tighter on him than McDonald. In reality, it's probably a moot point, though. I expect they'll both play on him at different times during the day.

I can see Palmer tagging him. T.Mc's greatest strength is his ability to zone off and take marks I can't see him use this ability if he's wrestling one of the best forwards going around.

Good. H just needs to drop a bit deeper down back and take Palmer out of the game. Easy.

We are fortunate that we have H, Howe, Garland AND McDonald that can zone off.

FWIW, for at least the last three meetings against GWS, wanna take a guess at who has played on Cameron? Even last year when Roos was coaching, Cameron was their best forward, and we had the likes of Frawley, Dunn and McDonald to use.

Overrating an All Australian who kicked 4 goals on the weekend, interesting.

Playing him on defensive forward would be useless? He would treat that defensive forward the same way as he treated Smith and Gorringe as the defensive forward wouldn't be able to compete with him in the air.

Why are you disregarding Dunn playing on Cameron? Don't you rate him as a key defender?

It's about keeping it simple. TMc is our best key defender, Cameron is their best key forward. They match well with height, weight, size, etc. If TMc can play like he did last week, it will make Cameron accountable, which I think can be his biggest weakness.

You said best defender should play on best forward.

For your benefit, I've added my original post to this reply. Now how about you read it again, all of it.

Did I say "You said best defender should play on best forward."? No.

Now that we've cleared that up; who would've Dunn played on had Lynch and Dixon both played? More to the point, who would McDonald have played on? Roos saw a perfect opportunity to play our second best key defender on the opposition's third best key forward (who happened to be their "best" on the day due to number 1 and 2 being out), freeing up our number 1 to dominate, which he did.

Dunn and Frawley played forward because we had no one else there.

My point is it's not about who is the best match up for Cameron, it's about trying to get McDonald to replicate his performance against the Suns playing him on another player he has no need to respect seems pretty obvious to me, why it's getting ridiculed by the other bloke has got me stuffed, but everybody has the right to an opinion.

Obviously if McDonald goes to Mcarthy then Dunn will play on Cameron. McDonald and Dunn will take key posts and usually Dunn will go to the biggest forward McDonald will play on the next one.

Yes, the defensive forward would not go to him specifically for those reasons. It would be a waste for Rhys Palmer to play on him in terms of a GWS point of view.

Over rating in a sense that thinking our defenders wouldn't back themselves to run off their opponents. As soon as we get the football they would try to become an option. If the ball is in their area they would try to intercept it.

You're embarrassing yourself, and I can't believe I'm getting sucked in. 2014 was when Frawley played forward, which happened to be during our first GWS meeting (roughly Round 3) from memory. McDonald started on Cameron in the game, so your point is again irrelevant. Cameron didn't play the second time we played them in 2014. In 2013, Frawley played back, yet McDonald still played on Cameron, both games I believe.

Cameron has the ability to kick a bag against Dunn. You need to ask yourself if you think the drive that TMc can offer by not playing on Cameron, is going to directly generate more goals than what Cameron will kick against Dunn. How I'm looking at the potential outcomes for Cameron;

v Dunn = 4-6 goals

v McDonald = 1-3 goals

Don't worry about it Werridee.

There are those on this site, I will call them keyboard warriors, that when their arguments fail they fall back on insults. I doubt they would have the courage to look you in the eye if you fronted them. Move on.

Edit: PS: I don't think Dunn was close to AA last year. But that is my opinion.

Don't be surprised, it happens when you act like a complete fwit

I think we should drop Brayshaw he hasn't played anywhere near enough games.

I think we should try to get McKenzie to 300 games based on your theory.

Seriously dude, you're being annoying.

This is what I wrote;

"TMc is our best key defender, Cameron is their best key forward. They match well with height, weight, size, etc. If TMc can play like he did last week, it will make Cameron accountable, which I think can be his biggest weakness."

Read it as a full statement

A team's best forward isn't always one that doesn't play as the true "KPF". Further, sometimes a team's best defender is not necessarily their "KPD". Example - there was a time when LeCras was arguably the Eagles' best forward. In this instance, we're not going to play our best defender on him (ie McDonald or Dunn), because the match up doesn't work.

In this Saturday's case, their best forward (Cameron), and our best defender (McDonald) match up perfectly, and I expect them to play against each other (for reasons I have posted). It'll be the same when we play the likes of Richmond (McDonald vs Riewoldt), St Kilda (McDonald vs Riewoldt), West Coast (McDonald vs Kennedy), etc, etc.

Please tell me that you understand now. Please.

Disagree. I reckon Dunn is our best one-on-one defender. He's especially good at using his body to protect the loose ball, which is where Cameron usually excels. I reckon Dunn takes Jezza.

You are just one of many around here that are so weak of character and devoid of vision that you would fill the side with a new set of 22 zero gamers every week if you could. Oh we finished 17th last year, let's delist everybody who has played over 50 games and replace them, yeah that'll work. Go ahead and check it out you DH, the more experience you concede to your opponent the more losses you suffer. I suppose you would like 22 Brayshaws getting 9 touches each would you clown

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
