Nathan Jones the pulse of Melbourne Football Club - another Martin Flanagan special

This article from Martin Flanagan on our skipper is brilliant. Just shows what a humble and loyal person Chunky is. He will go down as one of the great MFC players of all time.

You also get an insight into the strong relationship he has with Roosy and even Goodwin as well.

What a legend. Love the answer to the question at the end. It's that quality that makes champions.

I hope we have success more for him than anyone else

Will be interesting to see where MFC fans rank him among MFC greats once his career is over

Still has plenty of footy left so who knows, might snag a flag, a Brownlow and a couple more B and F's ;)

As far as I'm concerned, we haven't had a player of Nathan's standing (both skills and morals), since Robbie Flower. So appropriate that he leads the Dees out on a day that celebrates RF and I couldn't think of anything better than a win to honour the both of them.

Is it a match day article ? I hate match day articles.

Please don't belittle Flanagan's writing by dismissing it as a "match day article". He is the most articulate sports writer I have had the pleasure to read.

Firstly, I couldn't care if it was written by Mark Twain, as I hate match day articles, and secondly, you shouldn't be invested in my views.

If we were to win > 12 games this year (unlikely I know) I would think he'd be a Real shout for the Brownlow

That a big call.

What about Jimmy Stynes, Gary Lyon and David Neitz?

He polled 13 votes last season and we won just 4 games

He could give the Brownlow a shake even if we only won 6 games and were competitive in most

Hopefully we win a lot more than 6 though, then he will win it with 50 votes :)

Nathan Jones is a rare recent example of something I feel proud to be aligned to in relation to the MFC. Mostly because I don't think he's anywhere near the most talented guy we've had come through the club in recent times, but because he is a competitor and it is plain to see he works his butt off to better himself. In an era where it seems so many of our players have almost rode an inverse improvement curve to the normal AFL player (I.e. Look good initially then just seem to get worse with each season) he has gone from strength to strength.

We are very lucky we have him...heaven knows where we'd be without him. Hopefully as my kids grow up they'll have more options than just the number 2 for their jumpers!

Flanagan clearly sees something very special in Chunk to have already written a follow up piece on him.

His place in history is already safe. Let's hope it includes some success attached to it, because there isn't a player in the league who is more deserving.
