I'd like to know in the wake of the submarine saga, just who told u.n.c.l.e. tony,  that the General would let Holden fold, & go offshore ?

what interference is there befhind this from the US, has any of this to do with their GFC & Iraq war debts;  & what about it being said that we are being pushed to buy Jap made subs.... is this more GFC issues around debt (the Japanese & the US) ?

are we to become the farm only buying from outside nations on a drip feed of power alliances?

will US built cars appear here in the near future?

& what of the Submarine tender processes.  more deceit from those Blue Ties

It's not really deceit if it was their unambiguous intention from the first days post-election to push GMH out of Australia Shirley ?

(cf : they need to make up their minds, they can't go on .... etc.)

I think that closing down the car industry and causing Ford and Toyota to follow in quick succession is far and away the Abbott Government's most spectacular achievement with the associated loss of jobs in S.A. and Vic. in all those allied industries running a close second.

Of course we won't appreciate the full import of the number of jobs lost until the end of 2015 and beyond but, hey, who cares?

A few more children in poverty, a few more women bashed, a small price to pay for staying true to Maggie Thatcher's vision

Shut the car industry but keep the Submarine industry! If I had the choice I would save manufacturing jobs in the car industry at half the subsidy realising that as the $AUD drops we start to earn export dollars. Last I heard we are not looking to export Submarines but the jobs will cost a bomb. Well done Tony again.

now that's funny - "causing Ford and Toyota to follow in quick succession"

ford was first to quit and it happened under labor's julia http://www.afr.com/p/national/ford_to_pull_out_of_australian_manufacturing_1y7BTSXmf5L0XWQQxfuwNJ

Ok

Nothing happened under Abbot's wach

Point taken

people weren't buying locally made fords and holdens - they were in sharp decline - look at the figures - building the wrong cars

local support industry wasn't sustainable with only one manufacturer hence toyota leaving

it's sad but i don't blame either party

your right, in that Ford MC was the first to announce they were out of town on the very next coach. But Holden were staying until something happened to alter that in the time between Fords announcement to leave, & Rabbotts election win.

How did the Rabbot hear of the pending Holden General Motors decision, before Holden had announced it, or did u.n.c.l.e. Tony know, before even Holden was told the bad news ???

Once both local manufacturers were going, then there is NO reason for Toyota to stay building cars here, when they can build them cheaper in Asia... But u.n.c.l.e. Tony was talking up Toyota, sucking up to them, trying to pump his wonderfully warm breath up their exhausts.

u.n.c.l.e. Tony wanted Toyota to stay; was he told by them they would; before Holden decided to leave, after there were not going to be any subsidies to help our local car industry out.

I would like to know, or find out where the Rabbot got his info from, before Holden. He announced it in Parliament & played politics with their names daring them to come out & announce.

Is there a deal done with the Libs & the business leaders of the US, & possible the Emperor as well, to shut our industry with intention of importing US made cars in the nearish future; & why are we having to buy Subs from the Japanese, as a favour to the US ?

Is this some sort of Pacific/Western friendly society designed to help get the big economies our of their ditch? with a payback later down the track? on a promise ? but after smashing our manufacturing sector & the unions Wages, Awards, & Working Conditions?

..... the US wanted us recently to abandon our PBS scheme, which makes our medications affordable to people who struggle to make ends meet. Is this all about the free trade deals Howard invested us into with the US; & is it that they (US) want to plunder our market space now, by smashing our wages, so they can super-profit from us, as they do from their lowly workers on $6.00 dollars an hour?

andrew robb, perhaps you can shed some light on the timing of the "Holden closing" announcements, & just when you Andrew, & uncle tony, knew of the 'Holden closing' timeframe... did you here of it during your discussions in the 'USA', Re the T.P.P. ?

...... was it you who new first, & informed uncle tony & the Libs cabinet...

...... did you agree to let the Australian car industry go down the off-shore gurgler, & did you also agree to have the Submarines built by the Japanese, making sure the main economies in the pacific partnership would stay financially afloat, during the next downturn...

...... have you sold Australian manufacturing careers, & Australian manufacturing small businesses of 1000's of Australians, down the sewer ?

what war ? t.p.p. what is it good for.... or whom exactly?

Ford Mustang arrives in Australia but it's sold out until 2017

Ford Mustang arrives in Australia but it's sold out until 2017

The American muscle automobile has got a brand new Australian twist — and locals have gone into overdrive.

For the primary time in 50 years, the Ford Mustang has been made in right-hand drive straight off the manufacturing line for the Australian market.

The Brand New model landed on Australian shores on Wednesday morning, but if you haven’t pre-ordered the American pony, do not are expecting a Christmas surprise.

In sad information, The New versions of the Nineteen Sixties muscle car — a Ford Mustang Fastback and Convertible — are sold out Down Beneath for all of 2016, after dealers obtained Four,000 pre-orders with Eighty% of deposits paid.

However despair not, there will be More coming in 2017 and the company plans to roll out 20 different vehicles through 2020.

The Mustang is a good car, its fast and sounds great. Build quality is typical, plastic feeling of dash and centre console, gaps in panels and poorly fitting parts. However, it is fantastic to drive, I drove one for a week in CA in March this year and it is fast and fun. I got a brand new convertible 1000 miles on the clock and drove highways, city and country roads, top down, the exhaust sound is fantastic as it gets up to speed. The soft top works well and is easy to use. It easy to understand why they sold out so quickly. The same thing happened when Lee Iacocca back in 63/64 (depends when you want to believe it was really released,................. prebuilding).

The best thing about it was it was fun! Why couldn't the local car companies make something like that? Then their production numbers would go through the roof. Build something that people will aspire to own and drive.

The local car companies design decisions to offer boring base models in white, dilutes the brand of the car and makes the top end variant models less attractive. When a tourist is picked up in a base model Camry from the airport, its not showing the best that we can do. The top end variants are world class, put every option in every car, put our best foot forward and compete. The workers will be proud of the product and so will their families and the community. Not just another industry that no-one really cares for and the government won't be able to do what they have done.

When C Class Mercedes sell more than locally made Falcons, it shows its not a price decision for the end user.

The declining production numbers of locally made car, made it harder to subsidise. It is a shame it is going away as not everyone has a university degree and there are some people who just want a job on the production line.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
