How do we attract more members to this Forum?

I think it's easy to skim over stuff you don't want to read for whatever reason. Most members have other posters whose content they like, perhaps Saty for training (!) or WJ for his feature articles or others who have links with interesting sources. Sane people will also have numerous posters on ignore, I'm sure I'm on a few. I dislike the "if you don't like what I say the don't read it" mentality of some, but IMO it's not hard to skim over what doesn't appeal rather than let it get to you. This place would be pretty sterile if we eliminated all humour, sidetracks, slap downs, giffs, etc, particularly in the off season. Anyway, there will be more members log in once the season starts and we get a couple of wins on the board.

My New Years resolution is to minimise personal and negative comments towards other posters. Except towards BBO, because he's a right [censored].

Agreed - I'd like to recant my earlier post and offer my wholehearted apologies to BBO - I really don't know what I was thinking when I wrote that! I know they're alpacas, not llamas ;)

Yeah I've got no idea why more people don't contribute to Demonland.

Checking out the profile of Dee supporters viewing this site, currently there are 45 members and 85 others. I am surprised that the numbers are not reversed? It seems amazing that there would be 2/3 voyeurs versus 1/3 participants joining in discussions? If you are a non-Demonlander reading this, why don't you join up before logging off?

This forum should die along with our teams lack of spirit over the past 7 odd years. Perhaps as part of an excorcism of the Norm Smith curse.

Really....the ratio is not important. What is important is that this site is probably the most active among all AFL supporter sites with hundreds of active members. Just look at the numbers post match or during the lead up to drafts. It's one of the reasons we had to upgrade services over the years....we were just getting so much demand.

And isn't it great for the fans that a club that has had so little success in recent times can find such a common focus to vent their spleen/passion.

Finally, when Andy and Nasher ask for your support to keep the site up to date and help defray the cost of running it, we hope that all those people can find a couple of bucks to keep it all going.

Yeah I've got no idea why more people don't contribute to Demonland.

Maybe they are not very good at waxing lyrical.

To be honest, some of the more left field kind of stuff about S&M, llamas and the Gatwick have been a welcome distraction from the absolute dross we have had to focus on on the field. Without some jokes on here, the sniping and negativity would have gone into overdrive.

I have a mate who is/was so stressed out he had totally Lost his sense of humour & his mental health was on the edge.

now as things slow down in dairy farming re the calving etc, he has now found a new lady & his life & is getting back to so/so normal. he has a life back again.

he is getting his sense of fun & humor back, & is now less inclined to lose the plot with the cattle etc. all the negative perspective (serious dose of murphy's law) is evaporating & new shoots of sparkle & fun are growing.

IMO we all have to allow this transition to happen within this place (the mfc supporters) to have a sense of humor, to have some fun, to where a smile (here), & to Lose some of the intensity & seriousness that is seen in these pages all too often... usually as demeaning attacks on others.

its time we all started to lighten up, regards our footy club, & let it become a club once again.

Honestly, I'm just to lazy to log in as I use multiple devices to read Dland, so many posts I would have made just go begging

More ENYAW.

Sadly, I have the suspicion that ENYAW is some kind of high conceptual artist like Steve Aoki or Phillip Glass and the deeper meaning conveyed within his posts is tragically wasted on and grossly underappreciated by the plebians who infest Demonland.

I too agree with the general tenor of the thread.

I enjoy the read and dont always have time or inclination to respond.

Usually I send some worthless contribution that at least makes me feel better.

I do really appreciate the quick, witty and often very clever irony that just seems to spark especially from those contributors who know each other well and have continued sniping at each other until they run out of said clever invective. They usually keep me entertianed as I hope it is is friendly rivalry and not real hatred. The discussions usually bring out the best lenes so please please dont moderate them out of the game.

I reckon moderators do a great job usually letting contributors know when they are getting out of hand.

So Yeah I enjoy Dland

Maybe would be good to attract more people if a counter of the likes was available on the menu post.

This would allow those with limited time to see the topics that were receiving the most attention.

I understand this may be not be a true reflection of worth as I often forget to like some comments as I follow the quick repartee.

Also many comments contain something I like and something that I disagree with. I feel it is not worth responding as time has passed or further comment picks up my concern I usually then like that comment to save myself the time and repeating argument.

There is however then no recognition of my delayed like.

A look at the members list shows that there are plenty. However, many rarely post. This tells me they are either wise and considered people or they a bit reluctant to post because of some the loudmouths (you know who you are) on this site.

Maybe someone could bump the introductions thread, or create a thread for new or low number posters to say hello and tell us what (if anything) hinders their posting more often. Anyone over ,say 500 posts, should keep off the thread.

Post of the week for newbies gets a night out on the town with some of my associates from Fitzroy St.

When i say the town i mean a coupla beers and a game of darts.

That's it.

Only a newbie wouldn't understand the danger they were in Biff.

That being said, at one stage you were going to come down to Willy and have a beer with me at the Bristol so what does that say about me?

It's not about you Col. More likely Biffen would be concerned he'd have to buy a round. Make it clear the grog is on you and he'll be there in a flash.

The Bristol got shut down just before the thread on same got axed.

The Morning Star?

Stag's head is pretty nice too.

Sadly, there is not one pub in Aberfeldie. It's bloody wowser central here. How Brock McLean survived as long as he did out here, I will never know.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
